Nice restaurants in Akron

Pancho Negro

Texas Longhorns Fan/Alum
Hey Buckeyes! I'm a Texas Longhorn looking for some restaurant suggestions in Akron so I figured I should hit up our Buckeye friends.

There will be about 10-12 of us in the group, all college aged students. I'm not too worried about price as the school is footing the bill. A restaurant downtown or not too far from UA would be ideal. (I'm not too sure where our hotel would be in relation to either one of those locations and drinking is a sure possibility.)

We aren't a picky group but sticking to the traditional, American stuff (steaks, fish, chicken) are probably a safe bet.

I'm hoping to make some reservations here in the next week as we will be in town the first weekend in April.

Thanks in advance.

Oh and of course I will end this post with saying Texas and Ohio State need to do another home/home series. You knew it was coming. And feel free to hit up our website at shaggybevo.com and tell 'em Pancho sent you. (If you're sensitive about your feelings, that's probably not the site for you.)

O...H...

Been a few years since I've been back home... but...

Diamond Grille is all about steak... close to campus... been a major forever... cash or they'll bill whoever you want... pricey... excellent service...
Crave looks interesting... but it's newer than me... close to campus
Luigi's is excellent pizza but tough to do 10-12 folks and not a drinking spot.. could be a really good "after nite life" stop... especially college crowd
Ken Stewarts is very good and has a decent bar... upscale more than college age...

I'd eat wherever... then go down near the Aeros stadium (Cleve Indians AA club) .. lots of happening bars there... but don't be surprised if they don't get happening till midnight... will be outstanding eye candy everywhere down there...

Too bad it's not the second weekend in April.. Aeros are at home... and one of best stadiums you'll ever experience...

If you get a chance to do Swensons... hamburgers to die for... same for Stricklands custard ice cream... you'll measure every joint against them forever...

I'm guessing the "Hamburger Station" and "Parassons" are not on the "best of" list.
They are if you are a local... certainly if 'value' is the key criteria... but Pancho has an unlimited checkbook on this one... and proximity to campus...

We'd have to add the Barberton chicken houses (Belgrades, etc..) if we really wanted to create the BESTEST list...

Dang... the snobs out here think they have great food... geez... they have nothing that compares to the restaurants in this thread.. and these restaurants here often come to $100 per head when the check arrives... ludacrous

The top of the list is Crave. All others are a very distant second and are certainly not geared toward a younger crowd.

Do try a Swenson's burger while you are in town.

Have fun and grab a Rubber City Clothing company shirt while in town.
