NFL fantasy football advice

OSUsushichic

Fired up! Ready to go!
I joined a free, noncompetitive Yahoo fantasy league, and I need some advice. How does this team look? I know almost nothing about these WRs (except Harrison). Michael Jenkins is still available, so I'm wondering if I should snag him. Should I try to get a better running back? Leave it alone?

QB P. Manning (Ind)
WR M. Harrison (Ind)
WR D. Mason (Bal)
WR E. Kennison (KC)
RB C. Dillon (NE)
RB W. Parker (Pit)
TE A. Gates (SD)
K A. Vinatieri (Ind)
DEF Pittsburgh

Bench:
QB B. Roethlisberger (Pit)
RB P. Holmes (KC)
WR E. Moulds (Was)
WR B. Lloyd (SF)
TE D. Clark (Ind)
DEF Miami

Looks like a pretty good team... you could use another WR but RBs can be more consistent.

Priest Holmes is not playing (permanent injury, IIRC).

So yes, you need a RB. Did anyone take Mike Bell from Denver? He is currently the #1 RB in Denver, and at worst he will be demoted to the #2 RB in their great running system...

Draft strategy thoughts...

I figured this was about as good a thread to ask this as any...

I'm in a 13 team redraft league.

We start 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 RB/WR, 2 WR/TE, 1 K & 1 Team Def.

Scoring is pretty standard, though Passing TDs are 4 pts. vs 6 pts. for all other TDs. And we don't give pts per reception or bonus pts for 100 yards rush or recieve, etc.

So here's my draft question:

I pick 11th in a snake draft. (giving me picks 11, 16, 37, 42, 63, 68, etc....) Typically I draft RB-RB with my first 2 picks. This year though, looking at a hundred pre-ranking cheat sheets and mock drafts I seem to fall right on the edge of the truly solid RB picks to a muddled group of hopefuls and question marks.

This makes me question my standard golden rule of drafting 1st-RB, 2nd-RB, 3rd-WR, 4th-WR / backup RB this year... which has almost always made me very competitive in my leagues if not in the money in my 5 or 6 years of FF.

Here's my assumption of players gone before I draft: (not necessarily in this exact order but somewhere close)

1. LT II
2. S. Jackson
3. L. Johnson
4. S. Alexander
5. F. Gore
6. J. Addai
7. B. Westbrook
8. P. Manning
9. W. Parker
10. R. Johnson / Maybe L. Maroney

11th pick ... Me

So what would you rather have? A core Team that looks like:

RB1 - L. Maroney ...injury ???? (insert your favorite 2, understanding 4 more of these players will likely go off the board before my pick 2)
RB2 - Ronnie Brown ...under performer / Dolphins Off. ??? (or Travis Henry ...Coach Shanny, Willis McGahee, Reggie Bush ...RBBC, Edge ...Ariz)

WR1 - J. Walker
WR2 - D. Driver

...Or would I do better to take my favorite RB at my #1, then grab someone like Chad Johnson or Tory Holt, then grab an RB2 in the third round and hope someone like Ahman Green puts together a good season or Marion Barber duplicates last year's TD totals or Marshawn Lynch can be as good a number 2 RB as one of the other top 20 RBs I'd take a guess with my #2 pick???

Basically will the dropoff taking my 2nd RB in the third round be less or greater than taking my 1st WR in that round???

Thoughts on a long-winded, maybe not-so-crystal clear Draft Stretegy quarstion? :tongue2:

All opinions are appreciated.

Go RB both picks. Two of them will still be there, because a lot of the others will go for QB's. You also have to remember, though, that with a 13 team league, you'll get killed (especially on bye weeks) if you don't have starters for backups.

Sushi, take Gore. I hate the fucker, but he's been very consistent for San Fran, and his stats have been top notch.

Padraig - Just pray beyond hope that Parker or Rudi fall to you. As for RBs to look at I really like Travis Henry & McGahee this year, probable leaning more towards McGahee.

But I agree with your thinking regarding maybe looking at WR. You have the chance to pick the #1 WR on your board with your 2nd round pick. But the real question is you have to think what RBs will be left coming back to your 3rd/4th round pick. And I am giving you a steal of a RB this year... Jerrius Norwood!!! Dunn is out for the first few weeks and if Norwood goes bonkers how can Atlanta not play him? And if Vick is out I can see them going crazy feeding the ball to both RBs even when Dunn returns. And heck, with Dunn's injury he might fall far enough to pick him in the 5th/6th round? But that is a crap shoot.

But I am rethinking my RB strategy since so many teams now play 2 RBs. So really what happens when your 2nd round RB ends up being a part of the RBBC and the WR you could have picked ends up going for 1,400 yards and 10 TDs?

It is all about replacement value. And I will restate this to make sure you read my thoughts clear. What will give you more points, your #1 WR + 3rd tier RB vs getting a #2 RB that might be questionable + a 2nd tier WR?

Every NFL league I have been in Gore went First round. I had him last year just as a Niner fan and now have never had the chance to pick him back up. Gore is consistent at worst and the Niners have a better WR corp and alittle passing attack to take the heat off the 1000 yard rusher from last year!

HOLD THE PHONE SUSHI!!!!

Dont head back to the War Room yet with Holmes contract.

Word is that he is going to be at Camp and wants back in on the rotation...

CNNSI, NFL page=
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Three-time Pro Bowl running back Priest Holmes will report to the Kansas City Chiefs' camp Saturday in a surprise development that comes 21 months after he was knocked out of football by a devastating hit.
The return of the team's career leading rusher adds an interesting twist to the situation surrounding Pro Bowl running back Larry Johnson, who has vowed to hold out of camp until he gets a new contract.
Ironically, the Chiefs drafted Johnson over the objection of then-coach Dick Vermeil in the first round in 2003 partly to gain leverage over Holmes, who was involved in his own contract dispute at the time.
