Little help please. My monitor stopped working all of a sudden and went to black. When you turn it (monitor) off and then back on, the correct full color screen showing the correct icons and all return for just a few seconds, and then the screen fades to black again.

I brought a new monitor from work and substituted it and rebooted, and the screen worked just fine for a day....and now it is black too. You turn it off and on, and it shows the normal screen for a second and then goes to black just like the other one did. What it it?? a bad video card or something in my pc??? Demons?

Power problem, maybe?

A few years ago my apartment wiring did in two monitors, a computer, and a space heater (not running simultaneously) before I figured out there was something wrong. It was for the best, though - caused me to move out just in time to avoid the prowler who fell through the roof and ceiling above my bed. Good times.

Power cord or video card, or motherboard or power supply, or the keyboard. If the computer doesn't see the keyboard if will shut down.
So you're saying I don't have demons????? Sweet!

The computer does not shut down, nor does the monitor shut down. Power is on, and you can hear the start up going through the normal phases even though the screen is black. If you shut off the monitor by pushing the power button and turn it back on, you see the normal screen in color for about one second and it then goes black. sometimes you see a little icon saying "analog" or "digital" on the monitor for that second too.

Thanks for the response BB. Whatever it is, i is dark evil mojo for sure.
