The Buckeyes are set to host another top prospect from Michigan.
The Ohio State Buckeyes football season is almost right around the corner. Next week marks Big Ten Media Days in Chicago and that’s the sign that fall camp is about to get underway. The long awaited season is about to begin and while that’s the first and main priority for this Ohio State coaching staff, recruiting will surely continue to be at the forefront of the talk until that first Saturday game day in Columbus. With top notch prospects still headed to campus for visits, the staff knows they’re to continue impressing and keeping their foot on the gas with this momentum. As the 2019 class looks to be rounding out in terms of the few last prospects “thought” to be Buckeye leans, newer names may surface, but the 2020 class and beyond will continue to add more and more prospects to their targeted lists.
Visit to OSU coming for TSUN native
It’s been mentioned several times so we won’t waste a bunch of time explaining, but the fact of the matter is, Ohio State recruiting in a rival state, Michigan, is just the cherry on top when beating both teams on the field with a few sprinkles here and there of Michigan native guys on the roster. Ever since Meyer’s tenure at the helm of the Buckeye program, Michigan natives have been a target for this recruiting staff and that won’t stop any time soon as long as the state produces the talent coveted by Ohio State. In the 2020 class alone, Ohio State may land Michigan’s top overall prospect, but if they can land another top 15 kid, that would surely be fine too.
Devell Washington, a Bay City, Michigan native, is a 6-foot-4, 200-pound receiver that does it all for his Bay City Central prep team. A true deep threat as well as long and lengthy type kid, Devell is a prospect that in time may see a serious bump in his recruiting rankings. Being a 2020 status kid, Washington is thought to be a composite three-star prospect and Michigan’s 13th best player for that said class. This past June, Devell was offered by the home-state Wolverines and exactly a week later, Ohio State also came knocking with an offer. A commit-able offer at this time or not, there’s a strong interest on the Buckeye side of things and that looks to be reciprocated as news came out yesterday that Washington intends to visit Columbus next weekend on the 27th.
A relationship may have already been formed, but this upcoming visit will only help to solidify the interest between the two parties. His status with the coaching staff will certainly be evaluated and you can bet they’ve already done their homework in terms of how serious they are in terms of trying to land Devell for their already incredible 2020 class. Currently, Michigan State is thought to be the clear-cut favorite in this race and if that remains true, the Buckeyes will be able to be selective in the 2020 receiver recruiting scene as this 2019 cycle will easily re-stock the cupboards for Coach Smith. Time will tell, but the July 27 visit will be one to pay attention to.
The trend continues
Staying where we left off in TSUN, another big time player from Michigan will be on campus this coming July 27. Shaping up to be the biggest recruiting day until the season start, Ohio State is set to play host to several top guys mainly from the 2020 class. Originally reported by Lettermen Row’s Jeremey Birmingham, Detroit King star Rashawn Williams will head to Columbus once again to see what the Buckeyes have to offer. Camping and visiting Ohio State multiple times already, Williams isn’t a stranger to the Buckeye program or campus. This visit, however, looks to be another chance for him to get back to the facility and further grow his relationship with the staff who obviously would love to add him to the fold for the 2020 class.
Ranked as Michigan’s No. 3 player in the class, Williams is also a top 125 player regardless of position and more specifically the No. 21 receiver in the nation, according to 247sports. More than deserving of his high four-star status, after seeing Williams compete both for Detroit King and also Legacy Football Organization’s 7-on-7 travel team, Rashawn has the tools to be a prolific player at the next level. His size is solid, but with another two years of prep ball to be played, it’s pretty clear he’ll continue to add speed and strength and maybe even more size. With his route running abilities and jump-ball type skills, Urban would absolutely love his quarterbacks to have another weapon such as Williams. If this upcoming visit goes smooth, that’s a thought that could become reality.
