  • Maverick Missle fucks 'em up

The video was filmed by some Air Force Joint Tactical Air Controllers (JTAC) in Tal Afar, west of Mosul. They were with a Marine Advisor Support Team - they are attached to Iraqi units and help train their forces on a day-to-day basis - who where in a fairly sustained firefight in the streets of Tal Afar with about 3 Anti-Iraqi Forces (AIF). They set their video camera on the bumper of their Up-Armored HMMWV which they were using for cover.

You can hear them shooting back and forth. The rounds you can hear are from the Marines and the ones you hear pinging against the side of the vehicle with no accompanying pop are from the AIF.

When the JTACs say they just "fired rifle" that means the aircraft just launched the Maverick. You can hear it come in and see it strike the vehicle the AIF were using for cover.

My buddy who went to OSU for 2 quarters and dropped out to join the Army was in Iraq for the past 5 months with the 82nd Airborne division. They had to do security detail for the elections and they said that for the most part the night was quiet. But in a split second they were called in to take out a block of insurgents planning to attack a polling station.

On new years day they were sent out to secure a block known to house insurgents. Before they knew it, they were getting shot at from all directions. My friend jumped on the 50 cal and took out the WALL of an entire building. Within 30 minutes there was 50 dead insurgents, and not a single Airborne scratched. Everytime they go out to take care of business, the casualties were absurdly disproportionate. Just a testament to how ridiculous our military is. His base had internet connections and everything, so I was able to talk to him on AIM almost every night! Every night he always had some crazy or funny story to talk about. Thankfully he's back, safe and in one piece. Hopefully he should be coming to c-bus to hang out with us. I haven't seen him in forever.

They had on the Military Channel last night that the ratio of KIA in the Gulf War was about 500-1 in our favor (about 200 US casualties to over 100,000 Iraqis killed). That war was was custom designed for our military...flat, feature-less desert on which we fought against a well-equipped but unmotivated enemy.

Nice, I had a friend who had a couple similar videos. One was a live shot from a airborne gun ship as they fired rockets at the taliban, and the other was some dumb ass getting his taxi plowed over by a tank. Unfortunately I don't have them.

I have a night-vision clip at work of a Blackhawk helicopter blowing apart some Iraqis who were in the process of booby-trapping a road at night. I'll try and dig it up and post it.
