with due respect to my fellow Jersey'ites...
they can't understand or fathom a game like this one...
this would exceed the biggest Rutgers game...
damn I miss these kind of games...

reminds me of McKinley vs Moeller at the Rubber Bowl...
Peterson, Doss, Martin... damn, what a game and atmosphere...

Being from this part of the state I'm pulling for Massillion to win. Unfortunately reading the thread on the sophomore running back from St.X and looking at the scores they are putting up it doesn't look pretty. Chances are good I will take this game in, if a ticket can be had. I say this as Fawcet Field is only eight miles from Massillion.

Yeah, this one will sell out in a hurry. Both teams have huge fan bases, odds are you're going to have to go to Massillon HS early in the week to get a ticket.

I'm thinking Washington will be able to take this one and get their first earned title...I wasn't at the St. X/Hilliard game, but form what I understand they looked vulnerable against the pass and whatever Davidson did seemed to stop their offense pretty well...weren't there some turnovers/blocked kicks that were gifted to St. X?

St. X scored on a fumble recovery to lead 17-7. Davidson held them to 35 yards of offense in the second half.

Davidson scored its lone TD on a 73 yard pass to Joey Ciamocco. Bo delande had 89 yards and Haywood had 70.

Davidson gave up 2 big plays. A 45 yard pass, and a 55 yard run. Other than that, St. X was held in check. If Massilon has a fast defense, they should be able to slow down St. X on Offense.

But the St. X defense is amazing! Good luck to anyone scoring more than 2 TD's against them.

St. X-14
Massilon-10

definitely not like the colerain team last year:biggrin: but nonetheless i gotta go with St. X here. i think washingtons offense can be stopped relatively well but no team really has a real potent offense so i am gonna throw it up and say a turnover(s) will be the determining factor in this game.

St Xavier 17
Washington 13

I don't have a rooting interest in either team. However, on the one hand, I'd like for Massillon to win, as Massillion is the quintessence of Ohio high school football. On the other hand, if St. X wins, then at 15-0 they are probably a top-5 high school team nationally for 2005, and thus can better "represent" Ohio high school football this year. It will be a good game, regardless of which team wins.

Starting Line-ups for this game, too hard to post. Heres the link.

Massillon Washington-Cincinnati St. Xavier Starting Line-ups

Looking at the lineups you can see X wins with speed. Massilon has more beef.

X has 5 starting sophomores too. That is pretty amazing. Way back in my day (oh hear lord I am getting old) only super studs started as a sophomore. We had one, and his Junior and Senoir years he was all state first team. Other than that, it was pine or JV for the Sophs.

St X is up 10-2 in the 2nd quarter
Actually Massillon has 3, not 2.

St X leads 17-3 at the half.

They had a 72 Punt Return for a td with no time on the clock. They said it was the first ever punt return for a td in Final history. I find that hard to believe, seeing there has been over 30 years of playoff football in ohio. And in the time, there has been many, many punts.
