When you lose 4-5 veterans that were all leaders- the people who didn't have to lead and only had to produce either have to accept the leadership role or move over. Sounds like it's going to be a long season. You are either a leader or a follower. Nothing wrong with being a follower but in sports you have to have someone as a leader. LSU clearly lacks that. It's almost tangible.

"We've got to get more left-handed hitters in the order," Johnson said after LSU's loss on Saturday to Arkansas. "Can't win this league with an all right-handed lineup."

LSU has nine players who can hit left-handed but only three of them have been regular starters this season: Steven Milam (a switch-hitter), Brady Neal and Josh Pearson. Ashton Larson and Jake Brown have also started against Southeastern Conference competition and Zeb Ruddell has seven at bats as a pinch-hitter this year.

Left-handed hitting is important, maybe just as much as left-handed pitching. Johnson points out that Arkansas — which swept LSU last weekend — has lefties Peyton Stovall and Kendall Diggs. Stovall went 7 for 13 in the series with a home run and two doubles while Diggs also homered and had three hits.

Not getting those kinds of performances from their own left-handed bats has hampered the Tigers' offense.
