LoZ: Twilight Princess

Don't Immanentize the Eschaton
Who has played the game? On which system? And what did you think of it?

I've played the GC version of it and thought it was an amazing. While it did not equal the first experience of playing Ocarina of Time, I thought it was still a great game.

The overall story was great, especially with the introduction of the Twilight Realm and Midna as a character. Perhaps the looming doom of Hyrule could have been greater as it seemed to be missing once you removed the twilight veil and went after the shards of the mirror.

The bosses were a bit too easy for my tastes, but they were the most fun of the Zelda series or any other game I know of...especially the Stalfos creature in the Arbiter's Grounds in the desert.

Side games were a bit lacking as well, except for the fishing game which I could do for hours, and the Cave or Ordeals, which I still have not defeated.

The best part though was this was a classic Zelda game. It had every element from the series present and reminded me why it is my favorite video game franchise.

Guilty as charged. (Then again, I'm not the one with the Garbage Pail Kids collection.)

I can't believe after all these years of knowing me, you haven't figured out that I'm a big nerd!

You're not that big of a nerd, I mean, it's not like you kept Star Wars figurines on your nightstand next to your bed in college.

Oh wait a minute......

We've been playing it on Gamecube, also. Haven't touched it in three weeks, but we've got to be pretty close to wrapping it up. Just haven't had an open day to really concentrate on going into the next area.

The graphics are great, perhaps not PS3/Xbox quality, but very appealing. It's just so pretty to look at.

The gameplay is great, too! Feels like playing Ocarina, but with some of the better control features that showed up in Windwaker, like the sword skills. Throw in some GREAT additions like attacking from horseback and the gameplay was the best I've played from the Zelda series.

I'm a little disappointed in the difficulty. Ocarina was great in that it was difficult, but not insane. Majora was ridiculously jumbled up and Windwaker was bordering on dull it was so easy. This is better than Windwaker, but not as difficult as I had hoped. A pretty big step below Ocarina in difficulty.

I do wish there were more sidequests. That was the part that made Windwaker interesting. Tons of little tasks all over the map. It was nice to be able to sit down for a couple hours and have plenty to do without having to commit to an entire dungeon area. I could live without the fishing. Just doesn't do it for me. The Cave of ordeals was nasty. Finally beat it on the third try.

I'd still rank it a little bit behind Ocarina, mainly because Ocarina was unlike anything else I'd ever played. This was still very much like Ocarina in a lot of ways. I might change my mind if I ever get to play it on a Wii.

Well, gee, Thump, he couldn't very well leave them on yours.

This is why I would still put it behind Ocarina. That game was so different than anything else I had played due to its non-linear 3D world. Who knows, perhaps Twilight is a better game, but the experience just can't match the previous one.

I will be interested in seeing what Nintendo does next with Zelda. Since Twilight was originally developed for the GC and then adapted to the Wii, it should be interesting to see what the game will be like when it is designed specifically to Wii capabilities.

Oh, and if anyone wants to see "dorky" people who do take the games too seriously (e.g. flaming each other over the location of Death Mountain in Ocarina vs. Twilight), you might want to check out these boards:

I play it on the Wii, I'm on my 28th hour and just beat the Arbitor's Grounds temple.

It's the best overall game that I've played since Ocarina of Time, and it's much more fun to play with the Wii controls. So, I put it almost dead-even with OOT.

I'm guessing the over/under on number of times people in that forum have been laid is -4.

Stop. OK. Just stop. I want a Wii solely to play Twilight, and I keep telling myself 'Look, you don't need to drop $300 on another console and game right now. Besides, it can't be better than Ocarina was, so it'll just be a huge letdown.'

Reading suggestions that it is even on the level of Ocarina, or "perhaps ... is a better game," makes me want to go out and blow the money on a Wii, which I don't want.

Really. I don't want one. I don't.
