Adios
I'm thinking about getting one of these because Sprint likes adding things to the family plan that I'm a part of every month, then accusing me of calling and adding various features to all phones included in the plan. And they've done this multiple times! But that's a different thread.

Just looking for some input from my fellow BPers. I've read reviews and they seem positive for the most part, but I'd like to hear more opinions before dishing out a respectable amount of money on something like this..

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: I'm also thinking about the enV, if anyone has any thoughts on that.

There is a new phone verizon is coming out with this summer that my buddy already has on him - it looks very cool i'll try and get some more info on it but maybe the voyagers price will decrease soon or you may want the next big 'thing'

I have the Voyager, and while it is no iPhone, it is still pretty cool.

The Internet/Mobile TV package is pretty nice, if you want it. I do not have it now, since I really have no need for it.

The Voyager is the enV phone, just with a large touch screen on the outside. There is an expandable memory slot for up to 4gb (I believe). The price is a bit high, but it is a good premium phone, especially if you want to get on the best network (Verizon).

Suits my purposes for phone, email, some internet (if sites are optimized for it, or RSS), camera, and GPS. Given what it would cost to do those things separately, seems well worth it. GPS was the deciding factor for me, and I've been using it for finding new places as well as unfamiliar ones. Haven't signed up for the TV feature, but it looked as though the offerings there are very limited.

Now the service... I had to make a good half dozen calls before everything was received and configured properly. Not sure it would be different with any other carrier, though...

Sounds like a good phone. I'd use all features except the mobile TV thing. The GPS would be very convenient for me.

Are any of you familiar with the plans? I don't need many minutes (150 would do the trick), but I'd like to have no restrictions on web browsing, messaging, etc.

From memory, I believe the calling plans start at $39, and unlimited data is about another $30 or so. Navigation is $10/month. TV is extra, not sure how much. (The figures might be higher separately - look for a "premium" plan that includes both data and GPS.) Tethering as a computer modem would be an additional fee (I might do this at some point, not now).My older phone had very limited reception in some key areas, but the new one picks up phone quite well and internet is just a little slower out in the middle of nowhere, but still there.

Synching to Outlook is about another $30 or so for the add-on program, which seems ridiculous. The mobile email for the free services like Hotmail and Gmail are available with the unlimited data, though. The open source program BitPim can synch Outlook contacts. I just need to figure out how to customize email alerts better - the phone buzzing every 3 minutes for spam is getting tiresome.

I think I'm either going to get this phone, or hold out for the rumor of an iPhone for Verizon.
Problem with that rumor is that it conflicts with the other rumor from two years ago that AT&T has an exclusivity agreement with Apple for five years. That one has never been substantiated since nobody wants to go on record and break the confidentiality agreement, but it appears now that the clock on that original five year deal started back with the original iPhone's conception in 2005, not when it went on sale in 2007.

This is "substantiated" by reports that AT&T, in exchange for subsidizing the 3G and selling it at a $100 loss, got a one year extension, explicitly stated in a USA Today article to be through 2010.

This doesn't discount that there may be Verizon compatible iPhone's floating around Cuppertino, but we're probably not going to see them until 2011, if that.

Well, the battery for my Voyager RIP'd after about 13 months of use. No Verizon stores here had any replacement batteries, and even then the damn battery cost $40. I ended up claiming it on my insurance ($50 cost) but they're sending me an entire new phone (the Titanium Voyager, or whatever).

As time has progressed, there are still many things I absolutely love about my Voyager. There are some downsides that weren't immediately evident, though.

After a recent update, I'm finding that when I get an email notification, the light dims but does not go off, or the "Get Going" screen comes on at night and stays lit all night. Not so hot for battery life. There seem to be plenty of complaints about it online, but as of last week I hadn't found any solutions. The other issue is that turning off mobile alerts in all sorts of places still will not prevent the mobile email from beeping/buzzing if the phone itself is on ring or vibrate. The solution for that one? Completely block notification for the hours you don't want to hear it, even though you would like to see it. Why not just make the options work the way they say they will?

The last annoyance is probably not limited to Voyager, but why do so many games with silent modes still use vibrate even when vibrate is turned off? It's kind of nice to have something to do when you are stuck waiting somewhere, but when you can't because it's noisy on "silent", what's the point?

I like the phone but internet surfing is absolutely brutal. You really need a stylus to click on links and it constantly runs out of memory and reboots the phone. The touch screen buttons are very touchy and I constantly hit the wrong number, which is kind of a pain. The key lock pops on at weird times and some times the touch screen unlock button doesn't work. At least I have a really cool OSU skin on it. After my first year is up, I'll probably be shopping for another phone.
