At the risk of beating this dead horse to the consistency of gerber's mashed peas.
The only solution is to ban gifts to the kids from the school or to not allow the school to give them to the kids until they give up their eligibility or it expires.
legally a gift is gift because it is unconditional. Legally you can do what ever you want with it. BUT in this case what they did with them are NCAA rule violations, but not an illegal act, and they must suffer the consequences. No comment on fairness of penalty.
If schools are allowed to give kids "gifts" that aren't gifts in the eyes of the NCAA this problem will continue forever. As long as players get gifts they will be given to others... to grateful girlfriends, boosters, tat artists, little brothers with a car you want, etc..
C'mon...hands in the air if you got some from a grateful girlfriend after giving her your letter jacket, championship ring or some other crap you got from the school. Rules violations? hmmm lemee see something of value in return for a gift from the school. fer sure. Well it might be more affective than thinking about baseball.
By the way who doesn't think Massoli and Mallet didn't unload all their Oregon and Michigan crap
