When the Florida (or other) fans ask what is a buckeye, you can tell them it's a hairless nut...but if they ask what an Ohio State Buckeye is, you tell them this;
- it's a nation that believes in loving a team whether they go 0-12 or 12-0.
- it's a university that adopted a fight song written immediately after a crushing 83-0 defeat at the hands of their arch rival.
- it's a tradition.
- it's a state of mind.
- it's love.
- it's determination.
- it's being a gracious loser and an even more gracious winner.
- it's not about one year. It's about generations.
- it's not about winning. It's about the heart of the lion.
- it's about something few understand, but adored by all who draw near it.
- it's about loyalty, and teamwork. We grow on trees...of a common root.
- we will get back up, no matter how many times you knock us down.
- we'll cry when we lose...and dance when we win. We really do care that much.
- The Shoe is much more than the shape of our stadium. It's an attitude about walking in the footsteps of those gone before.
For me, being a Buckeye is about Saturday afternoons in the garden with my Dad...watching him light up when Archie Griffin scored a touchdown. But for all of us in the Nation, it's about something much more than what happens on the floor or the field. It's about the best type of pride and the strongest type of determination. Having heart is something that many from outside the heart of it all simple don't understand.
