[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica] The Dolphins have confirmed the addition of former Army linebackers coach Steve Tovar to their football operations staff. Tovar was an All-America linebacker at Ohio State and played in the NFL for the Bengals, Chargers and Panthers from 1993-2000. Tovar, 36, spent the past two seasons coaching linebackers for Army. ...

His bio from the official site:

Note that the fact about only 2 Buckeyes have led the team in tackles for 3 seasons is out of date. A.J. Hawk became the third Buckeye to achieve that disctinction last season.

Steve Tovar
Linebacker 1989-92

Steve Tovar is another in the great line of Ohio State linebackers. A two-time All-America selection in 1991 and 1992, he has the distinction of being the first of 21 players recruited by John Cooper to earn All-America status at Ohio State. Tovar led Ohio State in tackles for three-consecutive seasons between 1990-92, one of only two Buckeyes ever to accomplish that feat (Marcus Marek, 1980-82, is the other). In his senior year, Tovar was elected team co-captain and earned Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year honors (selected by the conference coaches) after recording 128 tackles. A three-time All-Big Ten selection, Tovar ranks fourth in school history with 414 total tackles and 239 solo tackles. The Elyria, Ohio native was a third round selection by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 1993 NFL Draft.

off topic. i remember tovar riding his bike around downtown. the guy could play, and i got out of his way everytime i saw him headed my way...

I remember several of the Football & Basketball players had Cannondale Mountaine bikes and road them all around campus. I guess they needed something a bit more substantial than my Huffy 10 speed  .

My brother (who was a Manager of the b-ball team then) used Treg Lee's bike to ride home a couple of times (90 miles)

In any case...Good luck to Steve. He was always one of my favorites back then (Tovar, Spellman, Robert Smith :osu: ) Teach those Jay Hawks how 'the real linebacker U' plays football :wink2: .

Steve Tovar

Met him this morning. Real nice guy!! He could still strap it up because he is in great shape. I'm 6'3" but he is easily 1.5 " taller than me but solid muscle. I asked him if he was a former OSU linebacker and he said yes. I said no more out of respect for his privacy.
