A 37-year veteran of the Ohio State Department of Athletics, Larry Romanoff is the director of external relations for football. After retiring from Ohio State in June, 2007, he returned to Coach Jim Tressel's staff working with current and former players, assisting with part-time and full-time job opportunities and other education-related matters.
A native of Toledo, Romanoff graduated from Ohio State in 1974 and served as a football manager during that time, including as head manager in his final last two seasons. In 1975, Romanoff earned a master's degree in athletic administration from Ohio University and returned to Ohio State, where he began serving in the athletic ticket office before moving to the academic counseling division, where he spent 19 years.
In 1991, Romanoff was promoted to assistant athletic director for academic counseling, where he remained until 1994, when he became assistant athletic director for compliance. During that period Romanoff served as Ohio States liaison to the Big Ten and the NCAA. He also administered the grant-in-aid program and ran the Compliance Committee that was charged with the task of educating the coaching staff, student-athletes, booster groups and alumni on NCAA rules and regulations.
In 1998, Romanoff moved to the athletic development office as Director of Alumni and Membership Services. He was responsible for the athletic endowment program and stewardship of the athletic development area. In 2003, Romanoff picked up event management duties as well, running the events for several sports and coordinating tours of Ohio Stadium.
Romanoff and his wife, Debbie, have three grown children: Jennifer and her husband Jason Crichfield; Michael; and Steven, also a former football manager; and one granddaughter, Jordan Beth.
