Kiffin was fined for his complaints about the refs after the 3OT loss to Stanford. He wanted to get a timeout when his receiver's knee was ruled inbounds on the replay with 1 second left, when the original ruling had him going out of bounds as time expired.

So he wanted to call a timeout based on a changed call after a replay? He can't be that stupid.

I think he was probably signaling timeout as the guy was being tackled on the sideline with 1 second left (which is really a fraction of a second when the clock says '1'). There's always a delay in getting the refs to recognize the request and then signal the timeout, so the crew got the call right by going to OT. The linked article correctly points out that the receiver should have gone down in the middle of the field (he was running sideways, not gaining any yardage); there would have been 2 or 3 seconds left and the timeout would have been achieved before the clock ran out.

I don't know what the sideline ref said to Kiffin during the replay review, but Kiffin certainly deserves to be fined for saying the guy "basically lied" to him.

Being tackled in bounds is a different situation than having a pass hit the ground out of bounds with 1 second left on the clock (as in Colt McCoy's CCG against Nebraska 2 years ago).

He wanted to call timeout as the play ended. He wanted the review to determine if the player went down in bounds with time left on the clock, in which case, he thought he called timeout in time.

And this is Lane Kiffen we are talking about. I assure you, sir, that he can indeed be that stupid.

Thanks for the clarification.

So, Lane wanted a timeout at the exact point in time that his players knee hit the turf. Nevermind that silly rule that states that the whistle has to blow and the official would then have to see the timeout called and then and only then stop the clock.

Yeah Ill be honest I dont want to see these programs completely ruined....its more fun to hate them when they are good...same with Miami I understand they have to pay the piper but footballs more fun when they are around

USC serves only one useful function in my world, a team that has the opportunity to beat Notre Dame.

Other than that, fuck 'em. Like Oklahoma, this is a program that has gotten away with a good deal of crap over the years.

He was in the ear of the line judge during the play, I assume stating that he wanted timeout called as soon as the play was dead. Because the line judge was on the other side of the field from where the play ended, I guess he didn't get to call it in time.

Barkley is coming back, this might be a pretty good team next year.

Both WRs are back, and they had big seasons. The real question is if he can be protected like he was this year, since Kalil won't be back at LT.

But Barkley's clearly an early Heisman favorite. I'll set up a 2012 Heisman vBet fairly soon.

Isn't next year their first year of big scholly reduction - iirc they'll only have 75 on scholarship?

Their lack of depth might be an achilles heel...

Either that or their douchebag coach.

SC has a wealth of young talent for the o-line, the only question is their lack of experience. They also have McNeil, DJ Morgan and George Farmer plus a wealth of TEs to choose from. The only question is if the D can keep improving.

And a collective gasp of oh [censored] is still reverberating through the great state of Oregon!

While I can date my disdain for USC back to '68 I'm surrounded by nouveau rich-esque Duck fans and I must admit I'm kind of reveling in watching them realize the new sheriff in town has soiled his trousers.

Is it just me, or does he look eerily similar to a certain Nashville-resident?
