While I will never forgive Urban Myer for what he did to us in Tempe, I live in Tennessee and I F(can I swear in this forum, I can't remember?)ing hate the Vols nearly as much as scUM, seriously its almost even.

I can not wait to see Urban run the score up on UT this fall. Don't think for a second he will call the dogs off. Remember what he did to UGA, that's right, Urban Myer is one vengeful son of a b*&^h, and he is going to tear UT a new a$$ hole. I can't wait to see it.

more Roy Adams fun.....over on Scout Tennessee (his handle is TennStud) he is claiming Ed Oregeron hurt Tennessee's chances by showing up at Marlon's school drunk with alcohol on his breath. Apparently Marlon's grandmother smelled the alcohol and was less than impressed. On a radio station, Marlon said Tennessee hurt their chances by Ed Orgeron disrespecting him.

Roy also claims Marlon's gandmother was sold on UGA b/c Mark Richt claimed they hold religious services before every game.

I have zero idea how much stock to put into any of this, b/c Roy Adams is a less than noble guy. I do think it is funny that the guy has an unbelievably bad reputation and he continues to post on Tennessee fan sites.

Here is the post, off of their free-board: http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=7&f=1372&t=3890483

Ed Orgeron say to Marlon Brown? I replied I didn't know what he was talking about. Richard replied: "Marlon Brown was just interviewed live on the Chris Vernon show-730AM, Memphis- and was asked why he didn't choose UT?" Marlon said "Tennessee disrespected me". Vernon asked how. Marlon said "Coach Orgeron did it." He wouldn't respond further, prompting the call I noted.
I just received a call from a friend at Harding Academy, which is a strict Church of Christ school, saying that the grandmother smelled alcohol on Orgeron's breath while Ed visited Harding. I'm just posting what I was told. My question is, was, "Was the grandmother really at Harding to smell alcohol on Ed's breath or is that just a rumor put out by Georgia folks, negative recruiting. I'm a BIG fan of Orgeron and don't think we would have gotten Marlon anyway, evidently, as the grandmother was sold on Mark Richt.
I just received another call from an avid UT fan, a Harding graduate whose good friend is youth minister at White St. Church of Christ, who said that Mark Richt really used the religious card on her, practically saying that he would have religious services before every ball game(his words, not mine) and that Ed Orgeron on the in house visit used words, not necessarily curse words, which were offensive to the grandmother. Again, again, I'm sick, depressed, upset, that we lost Marlon and think we would have lost him to Georgia anyway but....................

I wish I could repost it, and it is actually a thread somewhere on BP, but this is the same guy that admitted to giving out handouts to players on Tennessee Scout, after Arian Foster's mother called him out for being a bad influence on the team. Tennstud admitted giving $100 handshakes to clean-cut kids without tatoos and those doing well in the classroom. I guess you can't fault him for that.

You cannot deny, the SEC, provides a high entertainment value.

and another Roy Adams gem....this one free.

Scout.com: Info on K Malon, Memphis wr who committed to Alabama

this regarding a player that went to Bama' instead of UT because the mother could get money for having a "special" son...

A person very familiar with the Mitchell High School program says this individual has been "resourced", which means he's a special ed student. Since many, most, all(?) special ed students receive $500+ month to their mother, many mothers insist, lead, their sons to enter this govt. program, this individual most familiar with the program told us this afternoon, while watching the UT-Auburn bb game. He says that he's know some mothers with as many as 5 kids "resourced", thus eligible for govt. aid. I did NOT that special ed mothers receive govt. aid. To me, this is a good liberal, idealistic, worthy program, on paper which has been seduced by some unworthy mothers-encouraging their sons to get in this program. Evidenlty you get tracked as early as the third grade and if you're a problem child, with additional testing, you can become a special ed student. My friend says he has NO idea if K Malone has taken the ACT or what grades he capable. He says K. Malone is maybe 5'10. Also, the principal there, Mr. Ware, was Tim Thompson's boss while the head football coach at Westwood. Mr. Ware got fired as a football coach for unethical practices, according to several football coaches around town, and became an asst. principal in our notorious Memphis public school system, and now is principal at Mitchell. Allegedly, some colleges are afraid of Mitchell for those reasons.
I have heard nothing but good things about this young man; plays baseball, is very courteous, says yes sir, etc. So, please, nothing above should detract from this young man, personally.

I'm still unsure why so many people have a negative perception about the SEC.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Southeastern Conference Commissioner Mike Slive has issued a public reprimand to University of Tennessee head football coach Lane Kiffin for his public comments made earlier today.

"Coach Kiffin has violated the Southeastern Conference Code of Ethics," Slive said. "SEC Bylaw 10.5.1 clearly states that coaches and administrators shall refrain from directed public criticism of other member institutions, their staffs or players."

"The phone call to which Coach Kiffin referred to in his public comments is not a violation of SEC or NCAA rules. We expect our coaches to have an understanding and knowledge of conference and NCAA rules."

I found this quote hilarious-it's like when the UN tells Iran and China that they expect their member nations to have an understanding and knowlege of human rights and religious freedom.

Where does it say that the money for special needs kids has anything to do with college athletics?

Let me repeat. It does not matter what you have seen. It does not matter what I have seen. In any conference, at any school you will find idiots. Idiots wearing Florida orange and blue, idiots wearing wearing Buckeye gear. Just because I was at University and 13th and fans were behaving with class does not mean someone was not spitting on a visitor somewhere else on game day. Which is why I said this:

Truth is everyone has their share of idiots. The "your conference is bad while our fans are all angels" spiel sounds like so many Lilliputians and Blephescuans arguing about egg cracking.

If you talk conference, you have to own the Penn State video as examples of Big 10 class, as I have to own every idiot mouth breather who roots for an SEC team. It is truly a lame topic of discussion. I have never discussed the ass wipe of a fan that I met at my hotel in Glendale, what he said to me and how condescending he was in pre-game and how vitriolic after the loss. I know that he is not a representative of all tOSU, but he was a representative - to me - that day - for that limited encounter. I GUARANTEE you met some rude obnoxious idiot Florida fans. We both have a MILLION fans of both the die hard and band wagon variety, and it is obvious to me that any discussion that tries to quantify some sort of "conference fan personality" is silly.

I will say this: Nebraska has some really great and classy fans, and it is generally accepted (by everyone that I have spoken to who has played them) that they experienced the same classy treatment.

Middle part of post #117???

You mean, the part where we also use blank spaces between words when we type?

Damn. Guilty. :(

Unbelievable. You whine about how complaints regarding SEC recruiting are simply generalizations not grounded in fact, yet when someone places an example of arguably questionable SEC recruiting practices right in front of you (as you asked us to do, I might add), you choose to ignore it and duck the issue. Let's try this again: I'd like to hear your response to SEC schools oversigning of recruits on letter of intent day when it apparently states in the SEC Code of Ethics that this is not to be done.

But don't let the facts get in your way, here--feel free to ignore my question again and leave your blinders on regarding SEC recruiting.

I suspect that you are reading into that elements of impropriety.

... what impropriety have i accused anyone of exactly?

I did not when I read it. So we do disagree,

what exactly are we disagreeing about? personally im finding this conversation a tad confusing thus far.

but I would suspect that the disagreement is almost negligible if we talked specifics and not generalized statements like you quoted.

huh? here is the statement i quoted:

They DO NOT QUIT till they get a yes and for alot of kids, its impressive.

here was my response to this quote:

you sure thats a statement to be proud of?

its a pretty simple yes or no question is it not?

Really, if you want to be all naive and Ivory tower about it, you could save a few million dollars for tOSU academics by firing Tress and giving it to a guy happy to coach for 200K.

at what point did i defend tOSU or use them as an example in anyway?

As you say, this is SUPPOSED to be about what is in the best interest of the student. So shouldn't your school be about scholarships and research funding and not millions to coaches? Er...no, it does not work that way. tOSU did not get to be a dynasty by saving money on coaches or facilities or by failing to go after highly ranked high school athletes. No school athletic program that is successful is successful by accident. No athletic program can win without quality athletes.

why do you feel an elite program that puts the student athlete first can not exist? why is it that doing what is in the best interest of the student incompatible with running an elite sports program at the collegiate level?

When one win can mean the difference to a coach receiving his two or three million dollar salary, reality sets in.

i don't disagree with that sad fact one bit. hell, 1 win is the difference between a fat contract renewal and the unemployment line. my point is it isn't supposed to be this way and it wouldn't be if we the fans didn't fully support it. comments like this:

They DO NOT QUIT till they get a yes and for alot of kids, its impressive.

are at the very heart of the problem. if we as a fan base are not just willing to allow, but pushing for coaches to do "whatever it takes" to land a recruit let alone win a game... i have to wonder if we're following the wrong sport. college athletics is about more than W's and L's. if we can't comprehend that perhaps its time for us to let go and move on.

im not accusing you or anyone else of being a bad fan. its not my place to do so. but between statements like that and the multitude of "bad character" threads ive seen in the last few months. i have to wonder if it might be time we as a collective group ask ourselves why it is we're here. what are we getting out of this? what is it we are giving back? are our contributions helping or hurting the kids caught in the middle?

I've seen your Penn State fan video, and I've seen burning couches.

Never seen anything like either display at any SEC athletic contest in my 54 years.

...and I've never seen any burning couches in Columbus, despite being a season ticket holder for many years. Just because you haven't seen them doesn't mean that even more ridiculous things don't happen in SEC. After all, do we really need to retrieve the links to news stories of SEC fans shooting and biting one another over SEC football games? Seen any stories along those lines in Big Ten country (or any other conference, for that matter)? Me neither.
