I had no clue that there was a 247 website for the New Mexico State Aggies, and have even less of a clue of why they're the ones breaking this story

Greg Sankey cancels Lane Kiffin media appearance regarding NIL situation, according to Dan Patrick

SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey vetoed Lane Kiffin's scheduled appearance on the Dan Patrick Show in which Kiffin was to discuss the recent NIL spat between Alabama head coach Nick Saban and Texas A&M head coach Jimbo Fisher, Patrick Claims. Kiffin, one of the more vocal and sometimes unfiltered coaches in the SEC when it comes to hot topics, was set to give his thoughts over the air Friday before Sankey requested that Kiffin refrain from doing so.

"Lane Kiffin was going to come on, but the commissioner of the SEC asked him not to comment on the Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher situation," Patrick said, via The Clarion Ledger.

Saban alleged Wednesday evening that Texas A&M — fresh off an 8-4 finish in 2021 — used financial advantages presented by name, image and likeness (NIL) to land all of its 2022 recruiting class that ranked No. 1 in the country. After those comments — and reaction that went viral in the ensuing hours — Fisher called a press conference Thursday morning to respond. And he did not hold back.

Whatever relationship Texas A&M head football coach Jimbo Fisher and Alabama's Nick Saban had prior to this week is in the rearview mirror. That is what Fisher made abundantly clear during his availability.

"No," Fisher said if he had spoken with Saban since the Alabama coach made the accusation. Oh, he's called." (I'm) not going to (answer). We're done. He shows you who he is — he's the greatest ever, huh? When you've got all the advantages, it's easy."

Fisher was later asked if he wishes for the SEC to take action against Saban, something which the Texas A&M coach isn't asking for but expects to occur nonetheless.

"If that's their job, that's fine," Fisher said. "I'm sure they will. They'll reprimand or say something and we'll move on, I guess. This is about our players, and Texas A&M, and the people that work here and the coaches here. That's what this is about. Don't make a mistake. We're not going anywhere. We have still a lot of work to do. We're not where we want to be. This is gonna be a great program, and we're building it into a great program."

Saban, on several occasions, since clarified his initial comments that rubbed Fisher the wrong way.

“Well, first of all, I should have never really singled anybody out," Saban told Sirius XM radio. "You know, that was a mistake and I really apologize for that part of it. But I'm not against name, image and likeness. I think it's a great thing for players. Our players made a lot of money last year with name, image and likeness, but I told our players to get an agent, get representation, make what you can make. Players have always been able to work and I think that's a good thing.

"I think the issue in college athletics in general now is, you know, there's a whole system of collectives and people raising money to basically pay players to come, whether it's to come to their school or pay the players that are on their team. We've always strived in college athletics to make everything equal, make everything the same, whether it's scholarships, whether it's always the money, whether it's cost of attendance, academic support, whatever it is. It’s not really that way and this has happened in basketball, it's happened in football."
