When I'm wearing cargo shorts and a slightly stained T-Shirt, should I go sandals or tennis shoes? (After Labor day, of course)

The labor day implications are non-existent when wearing cargo shorts, which denote a "I don't know what day it is and am either high or hiking" demeanor. Sandals are the preferred shoe with this attire, at all times. Always. There are no exceptions.
