The controversial OC’s hiring is made official after Ed Warinner’s departure for the Land of 10,000 Lakes

Urban Meyer and Ohio State certainly didn’t waste any time in making an effort to right the wrongs surrounding an offense without an identity.

As finally officially confirmed by the Ohio State football program, the Buckeyes have brought in Kevin Wilson, the architect of Indiana’s explosive offense and a hire not without its share of question marks and potential controversy. Wilson was let go by Indiana under somewhat ignominious circumstances, with allegations of player abuse. The school ultimately said Wilson was not fired with cause, however, and due to legal wrangling, we’re unlikely to ever get particularly straight answers on the subject.

Wilson will also coach Ohio State’s tight ends, taking over the duties from Ed Warinner, who’s leaving to become the offensive line coach for Minnesota.

Assuming Ohio State performed its due diligence on the circumstances surrounding Wilson’s departure, the hire would seem like a home run on paper. Meyer’s roots of studying and learning Wilson’s offense goes back to the embryonic stages of his offense while he was still a positional coach at Notre Dame.

That should conclude Ohio State’s coaching recalibration on both sides of the ball. Former Arizona Cardinals DC Bill Davis joins Greg Schiano to coordinate the defense and 49ers QBs coach under Chip Kelly Ryan Day will attempt to help J.T. Barrett solve the issues that plagued his past two seasons as quarterbacks coach. Day will also have the title of “co-offensive coordinator”.
