Was there last fall. What a beautiful place!

    Things I think are essential:

    1. Catamaran trip on Holoholo Charters from Port Allen west to the Na Pali coast
    2. Helicopter trip on Blue Hawaiian Helicopters (they have the best copters - EcoStars - with the best views out the windows)
    3. Drive north to the Na Pali Coast from Waimea through the semi-arid canyon, and hike the trails you'll reach on the north side of the island
    4. Visit Hanalei, and have cocktails at the Happy Talk bar at Hanalei Bay Resort
    5. Drive inland from Wailua to see the many waterfalls feeding the Wailua River

Have a shave ice somewhere. Play golf at Princeville Prince Course if you're a golfer. Surf, if you're a surfer, at one of the many public beaches along the east coast of the island. Take a horseback ride in Po'ipu. Have a leisurely stroll through the historic old town of Koloa. All these are great ideas if you have time. In Koloa, have some Lappert's ice cream; it's legendary. If you won't be on the south side of the island for Lappert's, then the Kilauea Video & Ice Cream (north side of the island) is a great second choice. But you need to look carefully so you don't miss it!

I remember driving along the north shore to see some caves. On the way back, it was just after sunset, and there were thousands of small frogs crossing the road to head toward the shore. I was trying to avoid them but must have squished dozens of them - it was like a plaque and there was no way to miss them all.

Poipu had a very nice beach, and we also went to a flower plantation that was worth a visit. I'm sure you're aware of the Fern Grotto and Waimea Canyon if you've read any tourist info about the island.

Pick a trail up in the hills and hike it. We did a 14 mile hike - took forever and the last 2+ miles in the dark and out of water sucked a bit - but it was worth it. Incredible views. I got some fantastic photos of my thumb. Breathtaking. It's surreal to be looking down on the helicopter tours.

There was some remote white sand beach that we ended up on, too that was completely deserted. One of the most picturesque places I've been.

Don't play the Black tees at Princeville. Very long and no fun. I'm not the greatest golfer, 14 hcp, and the guys I met on the tee talked me into it. Sometimes you're hitting over or around 'Jurassic Park', and you kinda expect a T-Rex to come charging out. Thought that is where they filmed much/some of the movie. Also, where Indiana Jones came running over the hill with the natives chasing him in his first movie is there. Pretty neat to see where the scenes were staged. It's a small island, but has much to do and see. If you're a foodie, our meal at Princeville Hotel was exceptional. Get there early enough to have a window seat overlooking Hanalei Bay. You owe me a nickel if you thing of 'Puff the Magic Dragon'......The Islands are simply fantastic, especially if you are escaping the snow and ice in Ohio/other snowy places. PS, you don't need your sticks, just take your golf shoes, a glove, and a dozen balls (you'll need them if you play Princeville). There are some good courses on the Poipu side, and some good eateries as well. We enjoy Sam's wherever we can find them, try the poke' whenever you can (some of the best can be found in the deli dept of a grocery). Some will be better than others, but get the 'Islander' variety rather than the tourist.......OSUteke is right those chickens are protected.
