actually I'm surprised they didn't do this already. If I was a university prof and I was sending a letter to a scientific collegue I wouldn't want to use that damn bird

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Apparently, university correspondence is serious business.
The University of Kansas has deemed its Jayhawk logo "too fun and informal" to be used on its official letterheads, promotional banners or employee business cards.

Instead, a simple KU logo will be used on all official correspondence or promotions, said Paul Carttar, executive vice chancellor for external affairs.

"The letters KU represent our nickname," Carttar said Wednesday. "And the KU gets right to the heart of the matter."

The Jayhawk will still be used by the university's athletic department and the alumni association on stationery

Now, if they'll just quit reversing the "K" and the "U" when referring to their institution - the University of Kansas, they'll look even less like dumbasses.

KU = University of Kansas?
OU = University of Oklahoma?

Morons. People rag on THE Ohio State University but at least we don't refer to as our institution as THE USO.
