So another shitty season could net this kid?

What do you think, JO? Is it worth it?? Would this kid have a Sidney Crosby impact on whatever team picks him up?

doubt he has sikds impact. more of a straight up goal scorer. the kid is now over 70 goals. his numbers are unreal. he is straight up a goal scorer. the biggest knock now is his skating. but do you really expect a 16 year old to have the power in his legs of a 18 or 20 year old? and hes 09 so thats two years away, which is totally unreal. some people think he may end up in europe to play against better comp. others think he may get the nhl rules bent for him like he did with the ohl draft. (i doubt it and actually hope not)

Every sixteen year-old needs a t-shirt that says:

"I frequent the red light district"
remember the reg light that goes off when you score a goal in hockey...

Bright horizon

John Tavares is likely to be the NHL's next superstar

John Tavares hasn't yet gotten around to getting his drivers license. That's hardly normal behavior for a typical 16-year old.
Then again, it's not the typical 16-year-old who erases Wayne Gretzky's name from the record books, either.
When Tavares scored his 71st goal on Saturday for the Ontario Hockey League's Oshawa Generals, he passed the remarkable standard of 70 set in 1978 by the 16-year-old soon-to-be Great One. On Sunday, the season's closing night in the OHL, Tavares added a goal and three assists, driving his totals to 72-62-134 in 62 games, good for second place in the league scoring race behind London's Patrick Kane (62-83-145).

My reading sucks. I was thinking he was in NEXT years draft.

Hell, who knows. I don't see a dramatic turn around in the CBJs future anytime soon, so he may yet turn up in C-bus.:smash:
i wouldnt get my hopes up. what our best draft pos was 4? (klesla) i think it was sixt traded for 8th on the picard year. and nash was traded up for. likely hell go to a franchise that needs saved and the whole deal will be rigged (cough cough penguins)

i figured hes worth a thread. i dont know how good hell ever be but hes the next teen version of the bee knees.

14-YEAR-OLD MCFARLAND DENIED EXCEPTIONAL STATUS BY OHL
by Ken Campbell
As it turns out, John Tavares will not have company in the exceptional player category in the Ontario League next season.

The Hockey News.com has learned that 14-year-old John McFarland of Toronto has been turned down by Hockey Canada in his quest to become just the second player to obtain exceptional player status.

That would have allowed him to play in the OHL as an underage player, the way Tavares did two years ago after becoming the first player to receive exceptional status.

Had McFarland received the designation, he would have been eligible for the OHL draft May 5 and there's a good chance he would have gone first overall to the Erie Otters.

"We're disappointed with the decision," said McFarland's agent Mark Guy, "but we respect it."

There is no avenue for to appeal the decision, which was made by a three-person committee established by Hockey Canada. The body does not have to release the reason for its decision, but it's clear that a major factor was that McFarland choice not to play minor midget hockey this season, instead playing for the Toronto Jr. Canadiens bantam team.

The team was undefeated this season and won the Ontario bantam championship. Late this season, McFarland had 124 goals and 196 points in 68 games. Prior to receiving the exceptional player designation, Tavares played minor midget hockey with the Toronto Marlboros when he was still eligible to play bantam and was the league's top player.

Guy said the 6-foot, 180-pound center will play minor midget hockey next season.

think of a very young Steve Yzerman.

That's who he reminds me of at the moment.

I'm not sure if he has the grit yet, but he can develop that as he does seem to be a hard worker.

As for the goal scoring, if his skating improves (and it will have to improve quite a bit) he could easily impact whatever team picks him up to the point of Sid The Kid. He'll need a playmaker on his line to get him the puck, but that's not too hard in the NHL anymore.

i think that can be explained that hes a younger kid. his legs will get stronger. giving him a more powerful stride. thats my guess. he may never get nhl caliber level. but, from what i hear his stick and vision are so amazing hell end up in the league even if he ends up in a wheelchair...

Well it's not so much that, but I think Edmonton is going to be bad for a while and honestly I think Toronto deals Mats Sundin next year at the deadline and ends up south of 60 points total on the year.
