Jim Riggleman quits the Nationals...WTF?

"Jim told me pregame today that if we wouldn't pick up his option, then he wouldn't get on the team bus today," Rizzo said. "I felt that the time wasn't right for me to pick up the option,.....

Sounds to me like a guy who's tired of living single year contract to single year contract saying "I just proved my worth now quit jerking me around or I'm out of here". They decided to jerk a little more and he obviously wasn't bluffing.

The dollar amounts are beyond the scope most of us operate in but the principles are one's we've all dealt with I think.

If it's principles that the guy's standing upon, then I applaud him.

I don't think its really high moral principles or anything.

Just an MLB version of a working stiff saying pay me or I'm out of here and actually being able to do it.

For that alone I say good for him.

Indeed. How far do you think Rizzo got it shoved?

Depends on the owner but that's some serious egg on your face as a GM I would think. Baseball managers don't often just up and quit one day mid season. Logic would lead me as the owner to wonder just what kind of extra large sized asshat I might have as a GM.

OR

it's over in 30 seconds and the owner and the GM just shrug and shake their heads at what a crazy bastard the manager was.

More likely the latter from my experience because if you go the route of the former the owner has to admit he fucked up in hiring the GM. Easier to just say the manager was batshit crazy and get a new one.
