Jeff Bowden resigns as OC at FSU

I guess being shut out at home by Wake Forest was the last straw.

He had to go in order to take heat off his dadgum Dad. He resigned so his father didn't have to fire him.

He may be leaving now because there's a chance that daddy might be throwing the towel in pretty soon too.
I'd rather resign now then be fired later when someone new shows up.

Just my two cents.

Either way, as an FSU student, I'm excited to see him go.

Speculation on my part but I don't believe or Bobby or Jeff agree with it. Dave Hart (AD at FSU) called the Press Conference and announced the news himself w/o Bobby or JB present. Maybe I'm reading into it though. Bobby has been ridiculously stubburn regarding the situation and has said he won't let fans who know less about him in football make decesions for him.

The problem isn't Bobby's knowledge of football...it's that his son has no knowledge of football. Joe Paterno can't seem to figure that out either.

The other upshot of this is that the next Offensive Coordinator is likely to demand a much bigger say in FSU's personnel and play-calling / philosophy. Jeff was likely too easy for his Dad to push around on which kids would best fit a scheme (if he indeed had a scheme as such in which to fit them).

I guess Einstein was wrong on "The Theory of Relativity", it just didn't work at Florida State.

Christmas came early for FSU fans. Now they can go back to being a National Power.
This all rather depends on whether they get a new OC who is willing to work with (or under) Bowden, or instead go whole hog and gently usher Bowden Sr. out the door while inviting in a new regime.
And which one would be quicker fix?

So boosters can't pay players, but they can buy out a coach. :tongue2:

And Bobby's still in denial about the offensive problems under his kid.

Jeff Bowden gets big payoff to resign

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- As it turns out, Florida State offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden was given a bonus -- a big one -- to resign.
The school's boosters will pay $537,000 as part of a deal leading to Bowden's decision Tuesday to leave. The resignation takes effect Nov. 26, a day after the season finale against Florida.

The settlement was revealed Wednesday when the school released a copy of the agreement Bowden's attorneys reached with the university and its boosters.

Bowden -- youngest son of head coach Bobby Bowden -- retains his present $141,000 salary until his present contract expires next August. He then will receive annual payments of $107,500 until August 2012.

The agreement, dated Nov. 14, was signed by Jeff Bowden, whose legal first name is George, and Andy Miller, president of Seminole Boosters, Inc.
Jeff Bowden had been under fire for the past several years as Florida State's offense declined and his dad defended his performance.

But with Bobby Bowden's contract expiring in January of 2008, it was uncertain how the university was willing to negotiate an extension while Jeff Bowden remained on staff.

"It's just amazing," Bobby Bowden said Wednesday. "When things go wrong the first thing they blame is the offensive coordinator. That's kind of the game we Americans play."

I work with a few big FSU fans and they are thrilled little jeffy finally stepping down... some of their biggest concerns are that they lost recruits because of him... at least Cryami is down too so they they aren't going there...

Seriously, almost anyone is an upgrade from Jeff Bowden. I don't think things can get much worse than they already are.

Nice work if you can get it.
(Shouldn't Jeff be paying back the University for lack of performance?)
