Stanford and OSU battling for his top spot, followed by Michigan, Notre Dame and Alabama.

After playing in three consecutive BCS bowl games and winning the Rose Bowl Game presented by Vizio this past season, Stanford signed the country's No. 40 recruiting class, according to ESPN RecruitingNation. But don't think for a second that its low ranking really matters. Stanford continues to do more with less than perhaps any Football Bowl Subdivision program in the country. Even after losing three underclassmen (tight ends Zach Ertz and Levine Toilolo and cornerback Terrence Brown) to the NFL draft, the Cardinal should be a contender for a Pac-12 title in 2013. The Cardinal must also replace senior tailback Stepfan Taylor, who ran for 1,530 yards with 13 touchdowns, but quarterback Kevin Hogan figures to get better with more experience. Cardinal coach David Shaw and his staff signed only 12 recruits, but receiver Francis Owusu and three tight ends might provide some immediate help.

H.S. football: Paramus Catholic's Jabrill Peppers ranked No. 2 in nation

All the loose ends for the recruiting Class of 2013 are just about wrapped up, which means the focus is quickly shifting to the current junior class.
And when you talk the next wave of football recruiting in North Jersey, you have to start with Jabrill Peppers.
The Paramus Catholic standout is the most recruited player in New Jersey with offers from every major program. His standing in the pecking order of recruits was confirmed earlier this week when Peppers was named the No. 2 recruit overall in the nation from the Class of 2014 by Rivals.com.
"That?s an honor," said Paramus Catholic coach Chris Partridge. "But Jabrill is going to use that as extra motivation because he wants to be No.1."
Peppers is The Record?s reigning Offensive Player of the Year, but most recruiting sites focus on him as a cornerback. According to Rivals.com, "the combination of speed, physicality, understanding of the game and playmaking ability that Peppers brings from the secondary is unmatched in the 2014 Class."
Partridge said Peppers is not going to take any of his official visits until the spring, and his list of schools to visit includes Stanford, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Michigan. Peppers plans on running track in the spring, and will be working his visits around meet schedules.
"Jabrill Peppers reminds me a little bit of Vernon Hargeaves III in build and ball skills, but Peppers is more explosive as an offensive player," Farrell said. "On defense, however, both are exceptional. Adoree' Jackson reminds me a bit of Tre'Davious White."
For now, at least, Peppers is the crop's headliner. The Paramus, N.J., product is one of the biggest threats to steal the No. 1 overall ranking from Woodbridge, Va., defensive end Da'Shawn Hand. And make no mistake, that's one of Peppers' goals.
"It's an honor to be ranked the #2 player in the Nation!" he tweeted. "But in my eyes, if your (sic) not first your (sic) last. Extra motivation!!"
And so the chase begins.
"Peppers' instincts, athleticism, speed and playmaking ability are very similar to former Florida All-American cornerback Joe Haden," Rivals.com Mid-Atlantic recruiting analyst Adam Friedman said. "He is the type of cornerback who can lock down one side of the field and is not afraid to come up hard to stop the run. Peppers is almost at that same level as Kendall Fuller and Vernon Hargreaves and would push for the top spot in the 2013 cornerback class. The three of them have a lot of the same qualities."
