The Ohio State University’s loss to The Spartans of *ichigan State this past weekend in The Shoe 17-14 was devastating. It broke a ton of hearts …. mine included.

But in hindsight …. It isn’t the end of the world.

The Buckeyes were so ineffective on Saturday’s loss that I have to nominate Warinner & Beck as The Spartans co-MVP’s. The Spartans weren’t bomb-shells in this rather ineffective game either. Rushing certainly was the Spartans strong suit. Their leading rusher Gerald Holmes had 86 yards. But collectively – as a team – The Spartans pounded out 203 yards on the ground compared to the Buckeyes 86. Passing they were simply as ineffective as the Buckeyes were. O’Connor netting 86 yards in the air while Terry produced 2. Clearly the weather played a factor here. JT would only show 46 yards total by game’s end.

As a Buckeyes loyalist I am terribly disappointed in the final outcome. After this game, as so many other Buckeyes experienced, my evening was shot…

… But then comes Sunday morning.

Last year on the inaugural CFP’s the Buckeyes were outside looking in. Their catapulting Baylor and TCU was a controversial call by the CFP. But we know that it was the right call when they crushed Wisconsin in the Big 10 Title match with a 3rd string QB. This year will most likely play very differently.

Though the Buckeyes have hope (as insane as that sounds) I see them dropping in the CFP rankings to 10th. Though an anti-sentiment exists that may drop them further. If 10 is the case then, believe it or not, there is a remote shot. First the Buckeyes will have to beat TTUN in Ann Arbor BIG. MSU will have to lose to Penn State. Then the Buckeyes will take the East. Against Iowa again they MUST win big. In the head to head they would win the rankings war against the Hawkeyes. Now the rest of the scenarios …. Notre Dame must lose, Oklahoma must lose this week to OK State, or vise versa – then a prayer from the committee is in need ….

…Okay I’ll stop! Too many prayers involved here.

But at least for all of Buckeye Nation let us hope at least that Penn State ruins the Spartans hopes and then the Buckeyes ruin the Hawkeyes and their hopes.

As for the rest of the CFP’s …. It is out of our hands, just as it was last year.
As I realized on Sunday morning there is so much more that is important then the poor call playing by Warinner & Beck or Urban’s ineffectiveness to rein that sad scope in, being the General on the field that HE is. Even with Ezekiel’s blast of this same premise on a radio show (which he is completely right) is a clear sign of discontent on the unanimous #1 ranked team preseason.

Did the strong get greedy?

Did the talented get cocky?

Did we as fans get delusional?

The answers oddly don’t matter, as is the case – come Sunday morning. What happened on Saturday is past and gone. It will never change. The Buckeyes had opportunities and simply never capitalized. They are what they are ….

All year long we held our breath come the rankings announcements. The Buckeyes have been ineffective all year …. With the exception of Ezekiel and Mike Thomas …. Which totally confuses me as to why they were not utilized more? But I am a fan, nothing else. I am not Warinner, or Beck, or Urban. This, trust me, sits in their crawl more than mine. And Urban is safe. Warinner & Beck should be polishing their resumes.

But as I said – it isn’t the end of the world. Just pick up a newspaper.

Let us get over this. It is what it is.
