COLUMBUS, Ohio - Mothers and fathers and family and friends were a big part of Senior Day at Bill Davis Stadium Sunday, but Mother Nature played an even bigger role. In a game delayed nearly two hours because of rain, Ohio State defeated Iowa, 10-4, before a crowd that was as large as 1,617 before the rain hit. All three seniors who are everyday players for the Buckeyes - Brian DeLucia, Matt Streng and Tyler Engle - had hits in their final Big Ten game at Bill Davis. Streng and Engle each had three hits and two RBI and DeLucia had a hit and an RBI.
Ohio State improves to 11-10 in the Big Ten Conference and 23-24 overall with the win. The team entered action today in fifth-place in the Big Ten but finishes the day in a tie for fourth with Purdue and just a game behind Minnesota and Illinois, both of whom are 12-9. Michigan State leads the Big Ten race with a 13-7 record. Iowa is now 9-12 in the Big Ten and 19-28 overall. The Spartans and Indiana Hoosiers (10-10) were still playing their third and final game of the series when the Ohio State game ended.
Playing the first few innings in a steady drizzle, the Buckeyes took an early 1-0 lead when Engle doubled in Brad Hallberg from first base.
Ohio State added two more runs in the third inning before the game was halted. Streng singled home Tim Wetzel and Greg Solomon's double with runners on the corners scored Josh Dezse from third and allowed Streng to reach third base.
