If you had the money, would you buy a great Stereo?

I have some connections to people in the audio industry. And the question came up about whether people care about great sounding stereo. 2 channel, music only.
So , I thought I'd put it to the BP gang.

If your had the money, would you buy a great sounding stereo? Music only.

For a reference , I spent $3000 on my modest, dedicated stereo. Music only.

not yet. I'm waiting until we build the new house (3-5 years). I want to integrate speakers in every room of the house. Then i will really spend the money on it.

I'm not sure what this question is asking:

if money was no consequence, of course I would.
if I merely 'had the money' but didn't have tons to spare beyond that, of course I would not.

I realize you can spend a whole lot more, but I'm not sure that makes $3000 modest in any form (in my book).

If it's just the sounds system then $3000 seems pretty damn good. If this is an entier home theater system, then $3000 is nothing to write home about.

3K is more than I would spend... now... Having said that... I might spend a grand and then 2 grand on Booze... then the sound quality is little less important.

Ah, quite the alternative. unfortunately you'll need another 2k in booze after you run out or you have bad sound again...if you consider 1k bad sound

Just to clarify.
Stereo is 2 channel. 2 speakers.
Home theater is multi, usually 5.1. 5 or more speakers.
Though you certainly can listen to 2 channel stereo on a home theater.
This is a question of how important music is in your home.

Stereo=music only

Home theater= mostly movies and sports

I have a 5.1 Surround System in my Family room. Also hooked into that is my stereo (tuner, 5 disc changer, tape deck and phonograph).

I could get a good enough surround sound system for $500. For your $3,000 I could probably finish my basement and get an adequate surround sound system.

3K just for Music Stereo?

Nope I'll do up to 1K for the music sound gear

seach on E-bay for a 1k slate pool table and rack the liquor cabinet / humidor full with the rest of the swag.
