If you could change the outcome of one Ohio State football game, which would you choose?

If you could change the outcome of one Ohio State football game in the Buckeyes' rich history, which game would you change the outcome and why?

1969 loss to Michigan? Which would have given Ohio State back-to-back national championships and mentioned as one of the greatest cfb teams ever?

2015 loss to Michigan State? Does that team go on to repeat as national champions?

1998 loss to Michigan State? Does that team go on to win the national championship and does Cooper get more credit?

2020 national championship game against Alabama?

2006 loss to Florida in the national championship game?

2007 loss to LSU for the national championship?

1976 Rose Bowl loss to UCLA that cost Woody a national championship?

1980 Rose Bowl loss to USC that cost Earle a national championship?

You get the idea, and there may be others that you would select. So which one game would you change the outcome?

1995 scUM. Set the stage for the subsequent agonies. But the one game in any Ohio State sport I’d change is the Sweet 16 loss to Kentucky when, for the only time in my life, Ohio State clearly had the best men’s hoops team in the country.

They wouldn't be my final call (reversing either of these results wouldn't mean any guaranteed titles) but 05 Texas and 19 Clemson deserve a shutout.

Of all the notable losses OSU has suffered over the years, these felt the most like sure wins (over elite teams) that simply got fumbled in egregious ways.

Most other notable losses, I felt were deserved.

2022 vs Georgia.

I’d put 2022 Georgia in that same group. Just sickening losses.

Id have to say Miami 2025 or Georgia 2022.

2007 because that would’ve meant an undefeated season but I have to admit that’s behind these two because it wasn’t all that close. We weren’t the better team.

We were the better team in 2022- no JSN, Marvin, Stover, or Henderson. We were better we just didn’t finish the game (same for 2019 vs Clemson but I think we would’ve lost to LSU without Dobbins).

Miami- because had we got through them I think we win it all. I Think Miami was the worst matchup for us all year and that includes Indiana. Had we found a way vs Miami I think we would’ve ran over Ole Miss and would’ve been fuming mad vs Indiana.

1969 - without that 24-12 loss, the SuperSophs would have had a 3-peat. The Natty for the 1970 Coaches poll was awarded before the bowl games, and tOSU would have been ahead of Texas if they’d been defending 2 Natties. The loss to Stanford would have only affected the AP poll.

The Florida loss after the 2006 season and the 1976 Rose Bowl loss in Archie’s last game are the next closest for me.

Great question. I'd have a tough time choosing amongst these:
1995 cheaters
1996 cheaters
2021 cheaters
2022 cheaters
2023 cheaters
2024 cheaters (but this may be the first on the list to get cut)

Others I would consider:
1998 Sparty
2005 Penn State (the Rail)
2016 Clemson
2020 Bama
2022 Georgia
2025 Miami

I didn't start following CFB as heavily until this century. I wouldn't change anything in the Cooper era since more wins might butterfly effect him into coaching longer and not starting the modern era of Buckeye domination. The Florida loss for the championship comes to mind since it was for a ring. Outside of that I'd love for Stroud to have a pair of gold pants over the cheaters.

2006 vs Florida was the last time I can remember it being allowed for Ohio State to be "the team" without somebody attempting to shit all over us for something. Losing that one by getting absolutely dominated changed something in CFB.
So around that time, the faintly (or not so faintly) racist chants about "southern speed" and the "spread option" where the total hype by ESPN. Remember, the mindless hyperbole from Frosty brought about a LOT of this - he was a lot more respected back then than he is now. Add in ESPN's war in 2003-2004 against Ohio State and Jim Tressel, along with Frosty saying he wouldn't send his kids to play under Tressel and it was inevitable.

Since the SEC SEC SEC couldn't develop quarterbacks in the traditional sense at the time, the conference bought into the speed narrative and doubled-down on it. The spread. The speed. Everything. They were already whining in 2002 about how their conference schedule was so hard that no one from the SEC would be unblemished in the eyes of the BCS.

Also, at the timeframe this came about (2004-2005), USC wasn't an east coast draw for them and a lot of USC's games would be on late night ESPN or Fox Sports Net starting at 10PM.

Ignoring the fact the B1G network did it first, in 2004, ESPN didn't want to pay higher rights fees for the Big Ten broadcast rights. This forced the Big Ten to look at developing their own network which we know today as the Big Ten Network. However, once Disney bought into the SEC iz duh best hype, the E-SEC-PN network was born in theory if not in name. Their biases were completely uncovered and it became increasingly clear they were favoring the SEC SEC SEC. After that, The Longhorn Network became a thing in 2011 and once Disney was convinced they could build a conference network and it would work (not that LHN did however), the SEC and ACC channels were developed. And, irony of irony, the rights fees they balked at with the Big Ten were be pennies on the dollar today.
