Silly little question.

How do you mask the link so it's just a blurb, instead of the whole URL?

edit - see post 4 for expanded instructions.

An expanded set of instructions.

First copy the URL into your clipboard with Cntl-C (or a toolbar's edit-copy). Then type 'link' or 'ESPN' or 'whatever' inside your post, then highlight it with your mouse click, then click on the blue globe icon with the chain-link under it, then paste (Cntl-V, or edit-paste) the URL into the window that pops up and the hit the OK button.

It's also preferable to have any text that's brought across from the link copied inside a quote box, so it's obvious what somebody's typing and what they've copied in from the link. To so this, copy the test into your clipboard, then place the cursor at the place in your post where you're inserting the text. Then use your mouse to click the quote-box (little icon to the right of the envelope in a post's toolbar. Then hit Cntl-V to paste the test between the quote-boxes, which is where the cursor should still be.

Also, only a brief amount of text from outside articles should be copied in, per these guidelines in the thread called Posting Articles.

First copy the URL into your clipboard with alt-C (or a toolbar's edit-copy). Then type 'link' or 'ESPN' or 'whatever' inside your post, then highlight it with your mouse click, then click on the blue globe icon with the chain-link under it, then paste (Alt-V, or edit-paste) the URL into the window that pops up and the hit the OK button.

Unless I'm drunk, it should be [Ctrl-C] and [Ctrl-V] rather than [Alt-C] and [Alt-V]

Good point. I just stick my pinky on that key in the corner without looking at it. :tongue2:

Interesting. I am, in fact, drunk, but I was still right. What's THAT about?
