Bleed S & G

Taking Crazy Pills
Hey guys,

I'm getting ready to close on my first home and decided the half finished basement is going to become a theater. I'm looking for a 115" screen (56x100) with around 1 gain.

Can anyone point me in a direction for the screen? I don't want to "paint" one on with the screen goo and I am on a budget. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the help - but thats the wrong ratio and the cheapest one is $650.

I'm looking 16:9 and would prefer to keep it under $200k.

Panasonic has a good model:

Is that possible?
I've found a guy on eBay who makes them around $150 - the screen goo crap would be a great option (around $125) but the size I need will require buying more and doubling the cost.

It seems doable, but my googling here at the office wasn't turning up anything too promising which is why I came here.

The eBay guy may be the way to go.

Found theater quailty screen material on eBay - seller is rated 99% and sells only these screens.

115" with a gain of 1 for $65 - I built the frame with 2x4's and bought blackout cloth for the edges. Stretched and stapled the screen. Shipping was $25 but I was well under my budget.

The closing is not until the end of this month - which is killing me. I want to get in and hook this crap up! I've got everything built in pieces and will most definatly take photo's when it's all said and done.

So far, I've got the projector hooked up in the old man's basement. The Optoma HD20 which I posted about it the Plasma thread. It's full 1080p, 4000 hour bulb life at 1700 lumens for $999.

I ripped apart an old tower last Sunday and put in a dual core processor, upgraded the motherboard, 250 gig HD, 2 gigs of RAM, a new power supply and installed Ubuntu 9.1 on it.

The orginal idea was to use it only for MediaTomb - MediaTomb is a free UPnP Media Server that streams movies and music through the PS3. It works, and it works well.

I'm tearing the computer down today, and bringing it back  This weekend I'll be rebuilding the computer with a quad-core processor, 4 gigs of RAM, XFX Radeon HD 5850, and I would love to find a HDMI tuner card at Microcenter. I'll be putting in a TB for storage (on sale for $79.99 at Microcenter) and Windows 7 for the media center.

Partly because MythTV for Linux needs 2 machines - and partly because I'm a Windows user and while I dig the Linux, I've talked myself into a PVR.

For the audio I found a HTIB package that wasn't the typical HTIB. It's the ONYKO HT-S6200 - it's true HDMI 7.1 with a real amp and not the typical HT crap amps for $550 plus shipping! Reviews are great everywhere, so we'll see - I'm not the biggest fan of the HTIB set ups, but for my budget it seems like the biggest bang for the buck.

I would like to think I've done a good job of getting above average quality on a tight budget. The place I'll be skimping out on will be the seating.

Thanks Tao's - I found those calculators browsing the AVS Forums which is where I got the screen size from.

The computer is up and running..

It's got the i5 750 quad core processor, 4 gigs of dd3 ram, Nvida GT 220, 1250 gigs between the terabyte and a spare SATA HD I had in the old machine, 1000 watt psu - the only one that had the right connectors and Windows 7 Premium Home.

I've run through 2 tuners so far.. the first one was the Hauppauge 2250 - the tuner worked, but the IR was not compatable with Windows 7..

The second tuner was the HD PVR - IR was compatable, but the tuner was not. I found a program called DVBLink that makes a virtual tuner and then will allow Windows Media Center to find the PVR - after 3 hours of messing around with it I gave up.

Those are the 2 most expensive tuners at Microcenter, the Hauppauge 1600 is advertised as Windows 7 Certified, so I'll be swapping those 2 today to try and get the TV working on Media Center.

Found a program called Yammm that automatically detects the movies imported into Media Center, and then downloads the movie poster, IMDB synopsis, etc. and even recommends similar movies. The cool part is, on the recommended movies - it will show when they play on my TV guide with a "record feature" on the screen. Very cool.

This whole Media Center project has been a HUGE pain in the ass, but it should be worth it when it's up and running.

Nice, keep us posted. I'd like to do this down the road...

What is your TV situation? Do you still pay for cable/satellite? If there was a way to pay less for just ESPN and locals, I'd hop on that in an instant (and pay Netflix/Hulu some chump change for the rest).
