Home Office Monitor (Help)

  • Won’t bore you with a long story so here’s the tl;dr version. I’m redoing my home office including getting a new monitor. Right now I’ve got 2 23in monitors setup to use when I work from home (one day a week). I will be condensing down to 1.

I’m looking at something anywhere between 27in and 32in (i think) preferably not ultra wide, prefably greater res than 1080p

Those who you who work from home what do you recommend, I tend to work in spreadsheets and related analytics programs as well as watch BP spy scroll by while I work...

Any help is appreciated. I tend to agonize over tech decisions for a long time.

The higher resolution, the more power and ram you'll need to run it. And like I always tell people, more resolution makes old format stuff look like trash, so keep that in mind (this is more relevant for TVs, I love my crt tv in the bedroom for watching my DVD collection. Looks fine, while it's poor on my hdtv and would be unwatchable in 4k.

I assume you're not doing any gaming, correct?

No gaming, not worried about power or ram.

Yea I understand the old low res stuff will look like dog poop, dont watch that much the PC anyways, if someone does its my kids and they dont care that it looks like crap (yet)

I have a killer machine (with a good not great gpu) and as much photo resolution need as anyone, but I prefer my giant 1440p monitor.

I also like having everything on one big screen and creating my own flexible frames. Multi monitor setups are fine too, I just have widely varying needs, and now I can have my video or folder or spreadsheet whatever size I need alongside my workspace in Lightroom, etc

1440p was a really nice compromise two years ago to add clarity and pixel space without jumping to 4k with inconsistent windows support. It has improved some since the .

yeah I was looking at that one, I just have a tough time swallowing $500 for a monitor that will get heavy usage maybe 2 days week. I’m really debating 27in IPS (1440) vs 32 VA (1440 or 4K)... It’s the money issue for me given how little use it will be getting. Wife doesn’t want multiple monitors (current setup).

Just posting those for general pricing on good deals. One big thing to consider is whether the monitor arm is adjustable (height & pivot, rotation is kind of pointless at this size).

Nice! I figured microcenter was unlikely, mostly just giving a ballpark on pricing. Supporting costco is always a good thing, as they take care of their workers unlike most of the discount chains.

so Newegg totally blowing by budget... same monitor $100 cheaper than costco.. so of course I have to order it because if i'm gonna keep the costco one, then this saves me like $150....
