I did a search for a thread on this and couldn't find one, so here it is.
My grumpy review of the Casino:
I went to this Casino with a group of 7 people and was looking forward to hitting the blackjack tables and craps. When we first arrived we immediately went to the "Epic Buffet" where it was $24.95 to get in and was very underwhelming. The food was mediocre, at best. The only thing that was decent there was the prime rib. The desserts were obviously shipped in frozen and then thawed, and the waitstaff was horrible. Look you jackasses all you have to do is take a drink order and pick up the plates. Our waiter got our drink order wrong, I shit you not, 3 times. For $24.95 I expected quite a bit more. Here's a tip, eat before you come here.
We then wander around the casino - it's 85% slots and is laid out in a large Y shape from what I could tell. The table lowest minimum was $25 at any table and I was told that was how it is almost all the time. If you do Roulette the minimum bet you can do on a number is $5 and you must bet at least $25 overall. Drink service you ask? Non-existent. I mean I saw an ugly server one time walking around with a tray of drinks, but I never actually saw one of these casino sluts actually deliver a drink to anyone nor take an order... and I was on the tables for at least 2 hours. Fail.
They had some plastic mobile beer carts sparsely placed around the casino which sold domestic beer for $4 each. Cash only. Since no one was getting served anywhere the lines were very long and moved fairly slow since only 1 or 2 people worked at each cart. Great idea, take people away from gambling for some overpriced beer for about a half hour...
They do have free drink stations where you can serve yourself a coke product fountain drink. Note, no coffee here, just soda.
As you may suspect from reading this, Hollywood Casino is not about service as much as it is about raping you of your money as quickly as possible. From reading the reviews, my experience was typical.
Hollywood Casino advertises it has a Vegas style casino and experience. Well, if you've ever been to Vegas you know it's all about being service oriented which will lead you to spending more money there. In Vegas the food is good, the service at the tables is constant and friendly, and the dealers are engaging and welcoming. It works, Vegas is awesomely fun. Hollywood Casino, on the other hand, had little service - and the little it has was complete shit.
They need to get a much better service manager there, they HAVE to lower the minimums on the tables (even Caesar's Palace had $15 Blackjack tables at peak hours), they need to get Poker Tournaments there, they need to add more tables. Once the nostalgia ends for this casino, I think they'll be in trouble. They're turning off a huge base of people in Columbus, hell just read their Facebook reviews.
Oh, what could have been.
