Standard Poodles are actually pretty good sized dogs. They stand about waist high on an adult. If it weren't for that stupid ass "poodle cut" grooming thing they do to em all the time they would even look decent. They started as hunting dogs. The curly coat helps them stay dry. Remember, this was before guns were used to hunt duck, so the dog was the weapon.
