Welcome to your tri-weekly look at all things Ohio State recruiting. Let’s get started!
Basic Defense Impresses 5-star DT:
Though the Buckeyes were on the road for the first time this season at Oklahoma, many recruits were on hand visiting the Sooners over the weekend, and they took notice of the Buckeyes. One of them, 5-star DT Marvin Wilson out Bellaire, TX spoke to ESPN after the game and was very impressed with Ohio State.
Marvin Wilson when asked if Ohio State's performance made him think different of the Buckeyes….."Hell yeah." https://t.co/PE8VXbYHzP

Although the likelihood of Wilson ending up in Scarlet and Grey are slim, what Ohio State is putting out on the field is garnering attention from recruits all across the nation. The Buckeyes would surely find a way to fit Wilson into this class if he absolutely wanted to get in, but it is hard to see him leaving the South as currently Texas and LSU seem like the likeliest destinations.
Another 5-Star Visits Oklahoma, Crystal Balled to OSU?
A long time Buckeye lean, Jeffrey Okudah made his way to Norman to visit Oklahoma last weekend as well. Bill Kurlic from Bucknuts ($) caught up with some sources inside the recruitment and had this to say:
“I am told from the Sooners side of things as one might expect, one of the pitches is early playing time based on need in the Oklahoma secondary – that Okudah could see that for himself on Saturday night. And contrast that with a young Ohio State secondary that looked strong with Okudah witnessing that in-person as well. But what the Ohio State coaches can pitch in response is that while the Ohio State secondary is young, the NFL is going to come calling and there will be spots open – soon. Gareon Conley is expected to head to The League. Malik Hooker is eligible to go as well and the way he is playing – well it is obvious. And even Marshon Lattimore will be NFL draft eligible.”
After the visit one Oklahoma Insider changed his crystal ball from Oklahoma to foggy, which means he is uncertain of how he feels after the visit, and a Texas recruiting analyst put in his crystal ball to Ohio State after the visit. Okudah has a few friends that are committed to the Sooners, so it’s too soon to rule them out completely, but the Buckeyes have been in front for a while now, and I see this one ending up positive for the Scarlet and Grey.

A lot of people started to freak out when Ohio State offered a couple of other safety prospects in the class of 2017, thinking that they had lost Okudah. That doesn’t appear to be the case, they might just not have wanted to have all of their eggs in one basket in case something did happen. Xavier McKinney was one of those prospects offered, and he recently put out his official visit list which included the Buckeyes.
McKinney has 14 offers to date, and it seems that Clemson is the team to beat here as they hold 75% of the crystal ball projections currently. If the Buckeyes had a full slate of scholarships to work with this season, they might be able to fit guys like McKinney into the class, and they still might.
What To Do on a Bye Week?
In case anyone is wondering what happens on a bye week, just landed in Jacksonville to do a little flag planting! #onlywaytokeepthisrolling

If you are the Buckeye coaching staff, you never have down time during the season. If you aren’t preparing for a game, then you are recruiting. As you can see coach Kerry Coombs is out and about already this week after just getting back from Norman and the Buckeyes 45-24 win over the Sooners.
Expect to see most of the Buckeye assistants on the road this week visiting the top uncommitted and committed prospects that the Buckeyes are still chasing.
