I just bought a new Sharp Aquos 60" and when connecting to my cable box, I can do HDMI or use a Monster cable. Is one better than the other in terms of picture quality and connection?

I'm kinda assuming your asking is monster's hdmi better than others? The general consensus is no.

I've got a 55in Panny VT50 and i still use my monoprice hdmi cables :-).

I just installed these guys http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10240&cs_id=1025503&p_id=9889&seq=1&format=2 between my tv & my ps3...

Concur with Muck. It's a digital signal of 0s and 1s that will either work or not work. Buy whatever HDMI cable fits the length you need, write MONSTER on it with a Sharpie, and you're all set.

HDMI cables either work or they don't. It's an all or nothing deal. Occasionally if you're running 100 feet of cable, you may need an amplifier, but that still can be used with the cheap monoprice/amazon cables.

The price gouging on monster cables is outrageous (thea bove graphic is very fitting).

Heaven forbid you decide to wall-mount your TV and build an HDMI wallplate and start considering 2-3 HDMI cables in the wall and 2-3 running to the wall.

Wait a minute, are you referring to component video (+ audio)?

This is what I thought the OP was talking about.

I have a long run HDMI and Component to the same TV. The only reason I use the HDMI over the Component is the fact that all of my equipment feeds into the receiver in the basement through HDMI and then runs upstairs to the TV via HDMI. Net net, I don't have to switch inputs on the TV. No other reason.

This, this, this.

Monoprice isn't as cheap as they used to be, (I got two 12ft and two 6ft HDMIs for like $20 five or so years ago) but never pay Best Buy, Radio Shack, etc for an HDMI cable.

6ft 28AWG High Speed HDMI Cable w/Ferrite Cores 2x $3.37 = $6.74
12ft 28AWG Standard HDMI Cable w/Ferrite Cores 2x $5.60 = $11.20
Total: $17.94

That be the Monster that I have...

OK that is a different kettle of fish. When you originally typed 'Monster cable' the assumption was that you were referring specifically to the brand which uses massive price markups to take advantage of gullible consumers.

Component video (the 3 headed cable) vs HDMI are two completely different standards. Component video is an analog standard while HDMI is digital. Each has different strengths and weaknesses but to be honest you aren't likely to see much difference (if any) in video quality on most setups.
