For each group, the last two games are played simultaneously, so opponents can't conspire to a mutually beneficial result by knowing the outcome of the other game.

Two teams from each group advance. A team gets 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw. The first tiebreaker is goal-differential, the next is goals scored.

Brazil plays Portugal on ESPN and Cote d'Ivoire plays North Korea at the same time on ESPN2.

Brazil is through, and they win the group with a win or a draw.

Portugal wins the group with a win. They advance unless they lose to Brazil and Cote d'Ivoire beats N. Korea by enough to overcome a net goal differential of 9.

Cote d'Ivoire can only advance if Portugal loses, and CIV scores enough in a win over N. Korea to overcome the 9 goal difference.

North Korea has been eliminated.

Yes. That rule of playing the last qualifying games of the group stages simultaneously was started after a shocking incident in the 1982 world cup tournament, when what was then West Germany and Austria conspired to play out a 1-0 win for West Germany (two traditional rivals) to guarantee both teams going through to the next stage and knocking out Algeria.

Glad to see the ref isn't putting up with that shit.

That was the weakest breakaway ever by Portugal. 4 on 3, the guy gets an open run on goal and instead of taking a shot, he dumps it back to the marked man who passed him the ball in the first place. That guy promptly dives and goes in the book.

Lack of scoring in POR-BRA is not for a lack of trying at least. Portugal in particular have turned up the pressure in the second half. There just haven't been any goals for either side to show for it so far.
