Get to Know The Buckeye Battle Cry: Ben van Ooyen

The Buckeye Battle Cry has recently reached a milestone for the site. Over the weekend of the Oklahoma game, the Facebook page reached 10,000 likes. With reaching that milestone, we wanted to spend a little time interviewing the writers and editors of the Best Damn Website out there.
To get things started, I sat down and talked with Ben van Ooyen, Editor and Recruiting Guru here at The BBC. Ben has been a lifelong Buckeye fan, and has been writing about the Buckeyes for a few years now.
It was great getting to know another member of our team, for me personally, especially one that is the same age as I am, and who went through a lot of similar experiences with the OSU teams of the early 2000s when we both were in college.
Ben tells a great story of his experience after the 2002 National Championship Team, and I had to laugh because I can’t even imagine being at a campus bookstore the day after the Bucks brought home the trophy. And getting to hear the stories of what made him a Buckeye fan really helped bring back memories that even I had started to lose about that time.
As for current events, Ben picked the Huskers and Buckeyes to play for the B1G championship, with the Bucks winning. He also thinks Alabama, OSU, Louisville, and Houston/Michigan will make up the College Playoff this year.
Like a lot of people not based out of AA, Ben isn’t sold on Michigan this year just yet, but was really impressed with Lamar Jackson and the Louisville Cardinals.
As Ben says in his BBC bio: “Ben Van Ooyen is a graduate of The Ohio State University class of 2004. Ben has followed Ohio State sports for as long as he can remember, as his dad and his brothers all attended Ohio State and ingrained it into him at an early age how important it was. Ben has become a bit of a recruiting junkie over the past 10 years or so, and follow it religiously. He has written for Scout and for MotSaG in the past, and is happy to have joined tBBC as a recruiting analyst/editor! GO BUCKS!”
