This coming Saturday October 3, 2015 @ 3:30 p.m. in Ohio Stadium The Ohio State University Buckeyes will meet the Indiana Hoosiers for the 89th time. The Buckeyes owns a commanding lead in this series: 71-12-5.
This year the Buckeyes were a consensus # 1 preseason. They have started slow out of the gate and have provided disappointing stats (for most) in their games thus far.
The results this season have been comparative for each team.
The Buckeyes are 4-0. The Hoosiers are 4-0.
The Buckeyes wins are:
VA Tech 42-24
Hawaii 38-0
NIU 20-13
WMU 38-12
The Hoosiers wins are:
Southern Illinois 48-47
FIU 36-22
WKY 38-35
Wake Forest 31-24
Offense
The Ohio State University’s offense has not been as sharp as they ended last year, or certainly as productive as Buckeye Nation desires. There seemingly appears to be issues following the departure of Tom Herman. Fingers can and should be pointed but in truth, in doing so, only appears to create more dysfunction. The defense on the other hand has delivered each week.
Indiana, the due they deserve, has been a pleasant surprise for Hoosier Nation. Head Coach Kevin Wilson who has had stops at NC A&T, Northwestern and Oklahoma, has a current team with shining stars that “should not” be ignored.
On the offensive side of the ball – IN:
QB: Nate Sudfeld has 77 completions out of 126 attempts with a “more” than respectable 1,143 yards, 7 TD’s, only 1 Int. and a completion % of 61.1.
Rushing: Jordan Howard has 111 carries for 675 yards and 4 TD’s.
Receiving: Ricky Jones has 18 receptions with 411 yards, his longest being 71 yards, and 3 TD’s. But keep a look out for Mitchell Paige who thus far has 11 receptions, 114 yards, his longest 36 yards, and 2 TD’s. This kid is G-O-O-D and WILL have a breakout game soon. Let’s simply hope it isn’t against the Buckeyes.
On the offensive side of the ball – OSU:
QB: Cardale has 45 completions out of 79 attempts for 622 yards, 4 TD’s, along with 4 Int’s. and a completion % of 57.
JT has 21 completions out of 38 attempts for 193 yards, 2 TD’s and 2 Int’s., a completion % of 55.3.
Braxton has 1 pass, 1 completion for 3 yards, no Int’s., and a perfect completion %.
Rushing: Ezekiel has 77 carries for 455 yards and 5 TD’s.
Receiving: Mike Thomas has 16 receptions for 238 yards, an average of 14.9 yards per catch, for 3 TD’s.

Final Conclusion
What do all these numbers mean?
On game day things happen. So these numbers are nice to know but ultimately in battle they mean nothing. Regrouping transpires. Coaching steps into the factoring process. On that level (coaching) the edge goes to the Buckeyes. Urban Meyer is the complete package – a General in war. We may not always agree with his decisions – but, let’s be real – we are armchair.
On offense – the explosiveness that we know exists with this Buckeye team hasn’t shone yet. There is something that is off beat here. Is it the Warinner/Beck co-partnership? Last week’s victory against the Broncos of WMU had a nice spread with good performances – but was it the power-punch needed to send ripples while entering Big 10 play? This all may be an overrated concern. Recall last year when “essentially” this same team beat Navy unimpressively before losing to VA Tech. From that point out they rolled. The victory against WMU last week may be that corner they needed to turn. If this is true than look for Indiana to be educated on why The Ohio State University was a consensus # 1 pick. But if that corner hasn’t been turned yet, look for a hungry Indiana team to attempt to play the role of Buster Douglas.
On defense – the Buckeyes regardless of the national numbers are strong. I see a host of these players NFL bound. The Hoosier’s defense does not possess such wealth.
IN is a good team. They will be Bowl eligible when 2015’s season ends. I see them with a few upsets in the Big 10 this year. Nate Sudfeld is a good Quarterback. Dare I say he may be as good as Trent Green? But the Buckeyes have an awesome defense. Sudfeld can be stopped. On the offensive side for the Buckeyes when you are facing a team that is 126th statistically against the pass then perhaps this is the game to fine tune Cardale’s arm. I just hope that in this shuffle they do not lose the focus that controlling a game often is established via a ground attack. Ezekiel is the prime minister of this terrain and should be utilized more than in previous games.
Though on paper this game may “falsely” appear to be a threat for an offensively struggling Buckeyes team they (This group – This year) will NOT repeat the last time a Buckeyes team lost to IN – 1988 in an embarrassing 41-7 lashing in a season that ended @ 4-6-1.
Just a stab in the dark: OSU 47 – IN 17.
