Ga Tech +7.5 at Va Tech (ov/un 48.5), Monday 8 ET, ESPN

Got my living room tailgate all set up for this one!

For those interested in some quick notes from a Georgia Tech fan...

Key players to watch for GaTech will be:

Offensive: Orwin Smith (A Back)
Defensive: Jeremiah Attouchou (OLB)

I'll be particularly interested to see how our wide receivers do today. Stephen Hill left for the draft last year leaving us with a shockingly low number of returning receptions for the year (I want to say 8 completions total). Defensively we have a lot of work to day. We've really struggled finding an anchor in the nose tackle position for Al Groh's 3 - 4 defense. I expect this to be in the conversation for the best defensive unit we've had since Paul Johnson arrived.

Other things that may be interesting:

- Backup QB Synjyn Days has been taking half snaps in practice at A-Back. Might be a recipe for a trick play or two in the game.
- ESPN will mention it, but the winner of this game has gone on to represent the Coastal division in the ACC Championship game every year since we've had one. (I'll admit that it's been VT the majority of the time)
- Logan Thomas(VT QB) is ridiculously huge for a quarterback.
- There is a lot of interest at Georgia Tech to see redshirt freshman Vad Lee, our co-backup QB. He was Mr. Football in North Carolina 2 years ago and is widely seen as the QB of the future on the flats. He's expected to be able to throw the ball better than we have seen in the system which should add a much needed component to our offense.

Any way, I'm done rambling. I've got a ton of respect for Virginia Tech and Frank Beamer. Hope for a clean and injury free game tonight.

Also....Frank Beamer always likes to complain about the blocking style in option football which includes a lot of cut blocking. Look for him to refer to it as "chop" blocking in his post game conference.

Johnson's offense seems to become less effective as he remains in one place for an extended period of time. He'll need to adjust and adapt to get Tech back in the hunt for the ACC this year. Nothing like starting on the road against a conference power.
