KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Ticker) -- Wide receiver Freddie Mitchell will not be making a special delivery for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mitchell, who calls himself "FredEx," was released by the Chiefs on Friday.
Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil will start Eddie Kennison at one receiver position and kept Samie Parker, Marc Boerigter, Chris Horn and Dante Hall over Mitchell.
Mitchell is best known for saving the Philadelphia Eagles with a 28-yard catch over the middle on a 4th-and-26 play in a divisional playoff overtime win over the Green Bay Packers in 2003. The catch came in the final minute of the fourth quarter and led to a game-tying field goal by David Akers with five seconds left.
But Mitchell constantly complained about his role in the offense and was waived by the Eagles in June. He caught just 17 passes for 187 yards last season.
A first-round pick out of UCLA in 2001, Mitchell caught 90 passes for 1,263 yards and five touchdowns in 63 games with the Eagles.
