The high flyer will take his talents to Western Michigan.

Another Ohio State standout will suit up on the professional level. While he might not have got the chance to walk across the stage like current Los Angeles Lakers rookie point guard D' Angelo Russell did in June, former Buckeye small forward Sam Thompson will get the opportunity to chase his NBA dreams after being selected by the Detroit Pistons' affiliate the Grand Rapids Drive with the seventh overall pick in the first round of the NBA D-League Draft on Saturday afternoon.

A four-year letterman during his time with Thad Matta and the Ohio State basketball program, the 6'7, 200-pound Thompson, who was mostly known for his athletic ability and high flying posterizing slam dunks, averaged just over 10 points, and three rebounds a contest last season as a senior for the Buckeyes.

A number of former OSU players have found success in the D-League since its creation in 2001. Most recently fan favorite Aaron Craft was named the leagues 2015 Defensive player of the year.
