The Godfather Returns
If you are a fan of The Godfather saga, you must read this book. It fills out a lot of questions left in the period between I and II, and deepens your understanding of all the characters, especially Fredo. I was wondering how the author would integrate everything that happens at the end of II, and, all I can say is that he does it very well. The new 'villains" are very well written, and the entire story flows very smoothly w/ everything we already know from the previous novels/movies. To be quite honest, this book is what Godfather III SHOULD have been! Plus, the great Buckeye state has a large role in the book.

From what I remember of the Godfather DVDs, I think Coppola wanted to make a Godfather 4 with Puzo that would detail the rise of Sonny as a gangster and how he came to kill his first person. But those preliminary ideas were cancelled when Puzo died.

Sonny's rise is touched on in this book. I don't want to give away a lot of plot details, but, in response to some of the criticisms I read on amazon after I finsihed the book, the key thing to understand is that this book basically lets Godfather II be Godfather II, and does not attempt to intertwine itself to much w/ that storyline-Fredo's death excepted.

I don't know if they could've made this fly. I can't picture anyone else as Sonny besides James Caan. Not to mention that someone else besides John Cazale would play Fredo. That's a very difficult role to pull off.

I think the absolute worst casting call of all time was getting George Hamilton to replace the great Robert Duvall has Tom Hagen in GF III.

Absolutely right.. they should have gotten Roger Moore instead.

I think Tibbs was filming another movie at the time. Salacious B. Crumb was available, however ..

Yeah... I knew it was going there... but it was a really poor and extremely obscure reference to Cannonball Run when Seymor Goldfarb (as palyed by Roger Moore) is mistaken for George Hamilton.

Yeah, I know. Cannonball is one of my fav movies. Speaking of which, did Adrianne Barbeau ever do any nudey pictures? To this very day, I would love to see those guns.

They had her (probably was a body double) crawling around naked on one episode of Carnivale this past season. If I remember it was dark and all you could see was a little ass.
