Firefox 'Unable to Connect' link issues?

BuckeyeFlorida

Anyone else having issues clicking links in Firefox and getting an error indicating 'Unable to Connect'? I've got this problem with both my laptop and home desktop. For example, links on the front page of espn.com give this error every single time.

Have you tried Internet Explorer on the same links? I had a similar error in IE and reloaded the software and it mostly came right.

PS: Sounds like an error that I experienced for most of my high school years! :slappy:

I'm on v1.0.7 and I am having a number of issues... many are due to Microsoft.. and whether they admit to it or not.. a number of their 'partners' sites are ONLY accessible via IE... CNN is an example... Using Firefox.. you can access text.. but if you try a hyperlink to audio/video content.. nada .. you have to use IE to get audio/video

but I also have a number of issues inside BP with this fox version whereas did not have these issues in v 1.0.6

You might want to upgrade. I'm on version 1.5 and am able to watch CNN video using Firefox. I also have less issues with BP (best reason to upgrade.):)

I installed Mozilla/Firefox a couple days ago to see how it performed since I've heard a number of folks talk about it. I probably can't really say one way or the other after only working with it for a couple days. However, I did notice something today that kind of confirms what someone else said about some sites not being compatible with it. I got notified of another security update today so I went to the Mircrosoft homepage to download it. When I tried to go to the download page this is what I got:

Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site.

To use this site, you must be running Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or later.

So I closed Firefox, opened IE and had no problems.

Guess Bill doesn't like it.

I've noticed on occasion even after I use the uninstall option in the control panel that not everything gets removed. Did you by chance use Windows Explorer and check the Program Files folder to see if there are any folders still there related to Mozilla/Firefox? If so, delete them and then see what happens. Might not work but something for you to try. For some reason, beyond my meager knowledge, not everything gets removed sometimes using the uninstall tool.

Not sure if this will help...

Ok - Went to Add/remove programs and uninstalled Firefox. Downloaded and installed 1.5 and still have the same issue. It doesn't appear to be completly deleting the old verison because it maintains my old extensions.

Help!?
I am not sure if I fully understand your issue with web sites not connecting properly, but it sounds like it could be a plug-in issue. Try this on-line resource. Their forums are excellent (link on the right hand side).....http://www.mozillazine.org

Maybe this is a dumb question, but do you have the correct plug-ins loaded, i.e. Macromedia or Quicktime? If so, no biggie, but I thought I should mention the obvious first. This will take you to a large selection...

Some sites will only support IE for some of their features/links, or use an older version of JAVA. This will cause the page to not load properly in Firefox. Also, I would upgrade to 1.5, I believe it was released in November. Here is a link:

Hope this helps.

I'll check out the forums when I get home. This issue really is that overall, Firefox cannont find links from webpages. For example, when I go to espn.com, I can never click on the headlines (on the right) to read the whole story. When I click the link, I get a cannon find page error message.

My main issue (See above) isn't related to plugins, but I'll be sure to update them anyway since you provided the link.

I've got the newest version on both the laptop and desktop. I understand some pages are IE only or contain older JAVA, but I can get to the pages just fine. I just can't click and links on the pages.

Thanks for the help and suggestions! Greenies to you!

Thanks ..

I guess....it doesn't look like I was of much help! :tongue2:

I now understand your issue and frankly I am stumped. I would bet the Mozillazine forum would be of some help. It has helped me quite a bit with Firefox and Thunderbird.

Thanks for the greenies, BTW!
