I don't necessarily think it'll make BP a better place, but I don't think it would be a bad idea to have something along those lines. I think the more sub forums you have the tougher it is to navigate for members and it would mean more work for the staff.

One would be interesting as so many topics in the Political forum deal with monetary issues. Maybe as a subforum off the Political forum but I am unsure if it would disappear there.

Also, NJ and NY are not allowed to be moderators. All they ever want to do is cut taxes. :wink2:

I voted NO.

Currently there are 5281 (and growing) members to Buckeye Planet. I have no doubt that some of them could give excellent financial advice; however, due to the anonymity of the members, I have no idea who they are. Would you really invest and/or spend your hard earned money on the advice of a person that you have no idea who he/she is, etc.?

If so, I have some oceanfront property in West Virgina that I would like to sell you.

I voted no just for organization reasons.
What I would suggest is that in the small grey column to the left of the thread title we might use a $ to signify a thread devoted to finances much like the poll insignia we use. This could be used for several thread subject areas with differing symbols for different subject matter. I do not know if the board software allows this function or not.

I voted no but am rethinking
It might be good to some because most financial professionals are just sales people and are not truly truly knowledgeable except on how they get paid.
I'm in the industry and that's 90% or more of the agents, bare minimum.

So it might be a decent place for people to ask questions and get honest answers albeit general answers. Because no true professional should give a what's best opinion without working with all the facts.

guess it would depend on the topics...

personal issues are the first things that come to mind...finance/money matters require too much personal info to be revealed before anyone who really nows what they're doing to provide advice.. there's a number of licensed folks like myself who could actually be legally liable for making general statements and/or providing advice... even if we did so with a disclaimer... it's a lawsuit happy world...

the studs that really know this stuff.. like gbear, NYB and BoxCarWillie.. probably would shy away... or they'd have to give such general responses that it might not be as valuable... however, if you're talking about threads on global economies and the ultra macro cosmic stuff.. you'd never keep NYB quiet

this was my thought. i dont post much in the poli forum, but i read it and use it to make informed decsions. if i remember correctly it was a temp board for the 04 election which a couple of well informed guys took under there wing as a pet project. i dont think its a good idea to think that it would be used as a selling tool, but like so much hear a place to discuss, question and become informed on another topic

I said yes if it was broad enough... Anybody worth their salt isn't going to post "buy X" etc.

I figured if there was a place for home improvement, vacation tips/deals, general tax/finance questions/new laws, car purchases/advice, etc., etc. (basically money items currently in the general forum)...

I understand each sub forum adds work for the admin's and they have enough on their hands as it is...

I agree w NJ - esp on the point of keeping me quiet....

Seriously, my thoughts were not that it would be a specific investment advice forum, but rather a general finance/econ forum. The latest housing thread is a good example. In any event, my current job would prevent me from giving any specific investment advice, not that I would offer up any anyway.

I voted no, it would only take one moron to invest significanlty on someone elses word and lose to cause caos. Now, if it was home improvement (liek the highest yeild home improvement to help resale) I would have no problem. Add a pisser, more bathrooms the better.

Hey, how about we set up a forum on placing bets? What type of fees should we charge?
