Favre vs Marino vs Elway

Manning.

But if you won't accept that answer, then Farve. Although he's kinda tarnished what he's accomplished this year, its incredible that he's done what he's done for so long. A 107.2 QB rating for a guy that's been playing for 19 years may be a feat never to be repeated.

As for ranking them:

1. Farve. Has a ring (Marino doesn't). Lasted the longest, has all the records. Very durable. If not for one or two small things, may have the same number of rings Elway has.
2. Elway. Just too clutch to rank lower. His QB rating is the worst of the 3, but being clutch makes him higher (IMO) than Marino.
3. Marino. Still a great QB...But no rings.

Marino will always be penalized for playing on bad teams. If I get to choose one of them to plug in at QB on a team with a solid defense and a respectable run game its Marino. Best pure passer of the 3.

#1 - Elway....almost as good at passing as Marino except a lot more mobile. He put a lot of pressure on opposing defenses.

#2 - Marino....incredible passer but no athletic skill whatsoever. He was Peyton Manning before Peyton Manning. It's too bad that he landed on a Dolphin team that was in decline.

#3 - Favre....in my opinion a bit overrated QB, but still very good. A QB's job is to not turn it over much. Favre is the anti-Tressel QB. I admit that I'm a bit miffed at the way Favre has handled the latter years of his career. But being a gunslinger is not being a QB.

the best QBs that never get into the mix of discussion:
  • Boomer Esiason
  • Bert Jones
  • Terry Bradshaw
  • Warren Moon
  • Jim Kelly
