Buckeye running backs battled it out for No. 1 rusher.
Despite a slew of former Ohio State football players being sidelined in Week 4 of the NFL, there were still a lot that had noteworthy performances. Two of Buckeye Nation’s favorite running backs faced off, one Buckeye suited up in England, and several young players are beginning to earn starting roles -- and Terrelle Pryor keeps surprising.
Legend vs. Legend
Two of Ohio State’s most legendary running backs (of the modern era) faced off on Sunday, when the Dallas Cowboys (Ezekiel Elliott) went against the San Francisco 49ers (Carlos Hyde). The two make up significant parts of their team’s offense and battled it out for four quarters.
Hyde was the first Buckeye in this run-heavy matchup to get in the endzone, but ultimately came up short against the rookie running back. El Guapo finished the day with 74 yards and a touchdown on 15 attempts, along with five receiving yards.

Zeke wasn’t far behind his predecessor in getting to the endzone, and in the end had the better day of the two. He finished the day with 138 yards and one touchdown on 23 rushes, and 19 receiving yards. Elliott’s yards per carry have gone up each game this season and he’s headed for a long career in the NFL.

With two minutes left in the game, the Elliott even made his way onto the field to give the defense a few words of encouragement.
London calling
This is the 10th season the NFL has hosted an international game in London. This was the first game across the pond this season, and Jack Mewhort (Colts) represented the Buckeyes, as Indianapolis took on Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium. The left guard has been has been essential this season with so many young players on the Colts line.

First round pick Darron Lee stepped into a starting role for the Jets early this season to fill in for injured Erin Henderson. After two games, Lee has earned his spot with the No. 1’s — getting the start alongside Henderson in Week 4.
The Texans have a lot of changes to make on defense with the news J.J. Watt will miss the rest of the 2016 season — fortunately, John Simon has improved over the past few seasons and is ready for a bigger role in Houston. Simon got the start this week at outside linebacker.
Plays of the week
Terrelle Pryor
The former quarterback is starting to excel at wide receiver. His huge frame combined with his improved route running gave the Washington secondary -- predominantly Josh Norman — quite a bit of trouble in the first half of the Sunday matchup. He gave a nod to King James after his only touchdown reception of the day.

Michael Thomas
The rookie has been a regular target of Saints quarterback Drew Brees, and he proved why with a great touchdown grab near the sideline late in Sunday’s game. Thomas’ touchdown put the team within six points of the Chargers with just under five minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Kurt Coleman
The Panthers are surprisingly now 1-3, but the Buckeye had a Pick-6 to give the team their first points of the day. Coleman has been a welcome addition to Carolina’s defense, and continues to come up big — he finished the day with six solo tackles, totaling 14 so far this season.

- Rookie Joshua Perry was active Sunday for the Chargers at inside linebacker. He saw playing time at ILB and on special teams, but was sidelined with a right leg injury following a punt in the third quarter against the Saints.
- Both Malcolm Jenkins (Eagles) and Corey Linsley (Packers) have a bye this week, and will be back in action in Week 5.
- Last week was rough to several former Buckeyes who sustained injuries. Joey Bosa (Chargers), Cardale Jones (Bills) and James Laurinaitis (Saints) were all limited in practice this week. Eli Apple (Giants), Braxton Miller (Texans), Jalin Marshall (Jets), Alex Boone (Vikings), and Ryan Shazier (Steelers) all sat out during this week’s practices. Tyvis Powell (Seahawks) was listed as inactive Sunday.
