Everyone has had at least one Prof who...

BuckeyeFlorida

Resident Science Dork
Just really, really, really wants everyone to do poorly! I mean, short of being Einstein, I'm not sure there's much more I could do to earn an A in her class! Son of a bitch with her nit-picky grading and ambiguous questions! ... she makes my blood boil and her voice makes me want to jam rusty nails in my eyes!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!

Thanks for letting me vent everyone! I feel better now!

Anyone else wanna share their experiences?

In Engineering we had a prof who loved to make tests that had us prove crazy theories that hardly anybody oudside of Stephen Hawking could figure out. One midterm had an average of 27 (yes, out of 100). I got a 35 and all I could think when I got it was "I need to drop this class." Then he put up the average on the board. I was damn relieved. Of course when I finished the exam the week before I was about ready to get up and punch him in the face! I think the high was 50 and the low was 7.

Being in engineering myself at tOSU, I've found your worst enemy is having a professor who only cares about his/her research and could give two shits about teaching. Those are the people you really need to avoid when taking a class, since most professors teach 5 courses per 3 quarters. If it's a professor who enjoys teaching along with their research, you should be just fine.

I find it easiest to get to know my professors. I have 3 or so I will simply walk into their office to chat with if their door is open...this goes for a couple TA's as well. I even had a prof take me out to lunch once and give me a painting he had made.

Dr. Blackburn, my business law professor, liked to let the class know how smart he was. He used to preach about using the fewest words possible to express an idea for this was the pinnacle of intelligence. He later admitted during one of his classes that he was a very mediocre student and that his first job was at his Grandfather's law firm. I respected him far less after finding that out.

What was funny was how pissed he got when people called him Dr. Blackwell instead of Blackburn. Back then, Roger Blackwell was a star of the COB and it drove him nuts.....I still remember when a young lady raised her hand "Dr Blackwell I have a question." God he got pissed.

Here's part of that lunch conversation:

Professor - "GD01, do you like Gladiator movies?"

I had a black female prof in grad school who hated every white male in the class. I made sure to mention that she was a racist sexist bitch in my end of semester evaluation.

My MBA econ class was impossibly hard for me. For some reason the only students to get A's were Asian. Luckily I buttered up to the prof enough that he set the curve off of my grade so that I got a C. I had a 56% in the class.

If I have any advice to give anyone still in school. Be nice to your teachers. If they like you they will help you out if you need it.
