ESPN recently debuted an ongoing series titled By The Numbers. Ivan Maisel, he of the majorly southern drawwwll, has been picking the best college players ever to wear each number. Ohio State is well represented so far but with one, glaring omission: Archie Griffin. Stunningly, good ol' Arch wasn't picked to represent #45. That distinction went to TCU's Sammy Baugh.

But, of course.

It makes complete sense to give it to a guy who finished 4th in the Heisman balloting rather than a guy who actually won it TWICE! Not only was passed over he wasn't even the first listed under "Honorable Mention". ESPN's little blurb about why Baugh over Griffin is less than convincing. I also think Chic Harley was glossed over and, conversely, Mike Doss has no business being mentioned at all.

The Buckeye Representatives:
27 : Eddie George
31 : Vic Janowicz
40 : Howard Cassady
46 : Bob Ferguson
53 : Randy Gradishar
62 : Jim Parker
68 : Jim Stillwagon
74 : John Hicks
75 : Orlando Pace

Check out ESPN.com for their entire selections.
