Ozzie Guillen, whose White Sox held off Cleveland's late-season charge in the division, then went 11-1 in the post-season, was the winner in voting by the Baseball Writers Association of America.

Wedge's showing was the best by a Cleveland manager since Mike Hargrove finished second with 81 points in 1994 to Buck Showalter, then of the New York Yankees. No Indians manager has won the award since it was first presented in 1983.

Voting for all BBWAA awards takes place after the regular season and excludes the postseason. Managers got five points for a first-place vote, three for a second-place vote and one for a third-place vote. Two writers in each major-league city participated.

Bobby Cox of the Atlanta Braves won the National League award. Tony LaRussa of the St. Louis Cardinals finished second to Cox for the second year in a row. Cox also won the NL award in 1991 with the Braves and was the AL winner in 1985 with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Good for Coach Wedge. Closer margin than I expected. I hate the ChiSox, but Ozzie really deserved this. As a Tribe fan i hated the choke sign he gave in that last series he gave, seemed really unprofessional to do on a visiting teams field, but he did a hell of a job coaching those guys. I loved the "big fat guy" sign he gave towards the pen in game one of the series. He's a colorful guy that will make for a worthy adversary next year. Can't wait for April when the Tribe rises again!
