Part of my family is from Suriname which is in South America. Most of the probably half a million people live near the coast. Sipaliwini which is a bunch of jungle that runs to the border with Brazil is one of the most sparse, remote, uninhabited places on the face of the earth.

There's some Niche eco-tourism right there. I imagine most Americans have never heard of Suriname but it along with French Guiana has some the most remote rain forests in the world. Lost world, amazonian tribes type bull shizzle.

I know Central America has some of the more main stream ecotourism stuff but if you want remote, unspoiled by man jungle I'd say Suriname or French Guiana. Let me warn you it's no joke down there. The nicest accommodations in the hinterland would make a Knights Inn on Morse Road look like the Mandarin Oriental.

There are lots of ecotourism options in South Africa, where the accommodation can be anything from 5-star to 1-star depending on your wishes. If that interests you, PM me and I will put you in touch with some good internet sites.
